Arrive in Patagonia, group dinner welcome

Welcome to Patagonia, Chile, home to the world-famous Torres del Paine National Park and the iconic W Trek. Soon after arriving, you'll be surrounded by rugged mountains, sweeping grasslands, ancient glaciers, and fjord-carved landscapes that make this one of South America's premier hiking destinations. This evening, meet your guide and fellow adventurers in Puerto Natales, share a welcome dinner together, and get a taste of the wonderful Torres del Paine hiking adventure that lies ahead.
Accommodation: Hotel Natalino, Puerto Natales
Meals: Dinner

Biking in Puerto Natales, lunch at an authentic ranch

Before heading deep into Torres del Paine, you'll spend the day getting to know the landscapes and people that define Patagonia.

Pedal through native forest and along the shores of Última Esperanza Fjord, where snow-dusted peaks rise beyond the water and condors often circle overhead. It's a chance to slow down and take in the vastness of Patagonia before our hiking adventure begins.

At lunchtime, we'll trade bikes for a seat at the table at Perales Ranch. Here, you'll enjoy a traditional Patagonian Asado de Cordero and hear stories of the pioneering families who've built their lives among these windswept fjords and remote channels.

Back in Puerto Natales, you'll enjoy some free time before dinner to explore. Of course your guide will be happy to give recommendations! Tomorrow, we leave town behind and head into Torres del Paine.
Accommodation: Hotel Natalino, Puerto Natales

Begin hiking the famous W Trek, Torres del Paine National Park

After driving into Torres del Paine National Park, you'll set off on the first day of your guided W Trek tour, following one of the world’s most celebrated hiking trails. The trail follows the Ascencio Valley through lenga forest and alongside rushing rivers before beginning its steady climb toward Patagonia's most famous landmark.

The anticipation builds with every step. Then suddenly they're there. The iconic granite towers of Torres del Paine rise straight from the surrounding mountains, their sheer faces glowing above a turquoise glacial lake. It's the moment many travelers dream about for years, and now you're standing right in front of it.

After celebrating at the viewpoint, return to your refugio for a well-earned meal and your first night in the heart of the park.
Accommodation: Refugio Las Torres, Torres del Paine
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hiking: 13.7 miles (22 kilometers), 7-9 hours

Elevation Gain/Loss: 2,524 feet (770 meters) ascent, 2,524 feet (770 meters) descent.

Hike to Los Cuernos, experience Lake Nordenskjold, Torres del Paine National Park

Yesterday was all about reaching the towers. Today, you'll settle into the rhythm of life on the trail.

Hike west along the brilliant blue waters of Lake Nordenskjold, where every turn reveals another postcard-worthy view. This stretch of the W Trek feels distinctly Patagonian: open landscapes, ever-changing skies, powerful winds, and dramatic mountain backdrops.

As Los Cuernos comes into view, you'll understand why these peaks are among the most photographed in Patagonia. Rising directly above the lake, their distinctive black-and-grey granite layers create one of the park's most striking scenes.

Tonight, you'll stay beneath the mountains at Refugio Los Cuernos, one of the most beautifully positioned refugios in the park.
Accommodation: Refugio Los Cuernos, Torres del Paine
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hiking: 8 miles (13 kilometers), 4-6 hours
Elevation Gain/Loss: 196 feet (60 meters) ascent , 1,345 feet (410 meters) descent

Hike French Valley in the heart of the Paine Massif

Today takes you into what many hikers consider the most spectacular corner of Torres del Paine.

French Valley cuts deep into the heart of the Paine Massif, surrounded by glaciers, waterfalls, granite spires, and hanging valleys. With each mile, the scenery becomes more dramatic.

For those wanting an extra challenge, the optional hike to the French Valley Lookout offers one of Patagonia's great rewards. Surrounded by towering peaks and the immense French Glacier, you'll stand in a natural amphitheater carved by ice and time.

Later, continue to Refugio Paine Grande on the shores of Lake Pehoé, sharing stories from another unbelievable day on the trail.
Accommodation: Refugio Paine Grande, Torres del Paine

Hiking: 8 miles (13 kilometers), 4-6 hours

Optional French Valley Lookout: 3.7 miles (6 kilometers), 2-3 hours
Elevation Gain/Loss: 2,165 feet (660 meters) ascent, 2,165 feet (660 meters) descent

Hike to Refugio Grey, enjoy a Grey Glacier kayaking tour

Today, you'll complete another spectacular section of the W Trek as you make your way toward Grey Glacier. Leaving Paine Grande behind, the trail winds through rugged mountain scenery with sweeping views across Lake Grey and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. As you draw closer, giant blue icebergs drift across the water, offering the first signs of the immense glacier ahead.

This afternoon, experience Grey Glacier from an entirely different perspective. After meeting our specialist kayak guides, you'll be fitted with the appropriate equipment and receive a full safety briefing before heading out onto the lake. With an experienced guide leading the way, paddle among floating icebergs and take in unforgettable views of Grey Glacier's towering blue ice walls from water level. For many guests, this is one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip, combining adventure with the confidence that comes from being supported by knowledgeable local experts.

Back on shore, settle into Refugio Grey for your final night in Torres del Paine National Park. As you look back on the day's adventures, you'll have experienced Patagonia from both the trail and the water, gaining a unique perspective on one of the park's most remarkable landscapes.
Accommodation: Refugio Grey, Torres del Paine

Hiking: 7 miles (11 kilometers), 3-5 hours
Elevation Gain/Loss: 820 feet (250 meters) ascent, 688 feet (210 meters) descent

Hike to Grey Glacier, scenic cruise across Lake Grey, enjoy Patagonia's icy landscapes

On the final morning of your W Trek refugio tour, your small group will hike to a spectacular lookout overlooking Grey Glacier.

From here, you'll gain a true sense of the glacier's immense scale as rivers of ancient ice flow from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field toward Lake Grey. It's a powerful final reminder of the forces that shaped this extraordinary landscape.

Later, you'll board a scenic boat and cruise across Lake Grey, passing icebergs and glacier-carved peaks as you leave the wilderness behind.

Back in Puerto Natales, enjoy a hot shower, a comfortable bed, and one last dinner together as you celebrate everything you've accomplished over the past week!
Accommodation: Hotel Natalino, Puerto Natales
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hiking: 3 miles (4.8 kilometers), 1-3 hours
Elevation Gain/Loss: 328 feet (100 meters) ascent, 328 feet (100 meters) descent

Group farewell and onto your next adventure

After one final breakfast together, it's time to say goodbye. As you begin your journey home, you'll take with you more than photos of glaciers, mountains, and turquoise lakes. You'll carry the satisfaction of completing an extraordinary adventure, memories of moments shared with new friends, and a lasting connection to a place few people experience as deeply as you have.

Over the past week, you've done far more than hike one of the world's most iconic trails. Together, you've stood beneath the granite towers of Torres del Paine, shared meals in remote mountain refugios, paddled among icebergs, and experienced the ever-changing landscapes of Patagonia from sunrise to sunset.

Along the way, strangers became trail companions. Conversations flowed over dinners, stories were shared on the trail, and every challenge was met with encouragement from the group around you. The bonds formed over a week of adventure often become just as memorable as the places themselves. We say goodbye but look forward to the next adventure we share together.

FAQs

Planning your Patagonia adventure? Find answers to the most common questions about hiking the W Trek, accommodations, meals, and more.

On the first day of the trip we’ll meet you at Hotel Natalino, in Puerto Natales, Chile at 6pm for dinner with your fellow adventurers. You are welcome to book your pre-trip stay at this hotel directly or any other hotel in Puerto Natales, though you must make your own way to Hotel Natalino at the pre-designated time.

Your trip ends in Central Puerto Natales after breakfast.

Arrival: We recommend arriving in Puerto Natales at least the day before your trip starts, or before 2pm on the first day. Many guests like to arrive a day or two early to accommodate potential flight delays and/or explore the city prior to your trip start.

Departure: On the last day of your trip, we'll leave you in Central Puerto Natales after breakfast.

We’ve selected the accommodation for the unique character and adventuresome feel – this trip is not designed as a tour of the fanciest hotels in Patagonia. We prefer to stay in quaint, comfortable B&B’s and lodges. Things get a little more rustic when we head to the Refugio’s during the W-trek. The Refugio's are like backcountry lodges with hot showers, three course meals, bunk beds and it’s all part of a truly amazing experience! The rest of the time we stay in clean, comfortable, family-owned inns and hotels in the heart of the action.

If you've selected a single supplement for your trip, the W-Trek Hike (Days 3 – 7) are not included as no single rooms are available in the refugio's/lodges, and the single supplement price takes this into account. We recommend bringing enough clothing to only have to do laundry once during your trip, and the best time will be after your Wtrek once we return to Puerto Natales.

Occasionally, your accommodations may differ from those featured, but they’ll always be hand-picked by our expert team with care. We’ll send your final accommodation list a month before your trip begins, so you’ll know exactly where you’re staying before you set off.
