Mackenzie grew up in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. She loves to explore New Zealand, have lived in Takaka Golden Bay, Wellington, and most recently Twizel where she enjoys working in conservation against the spread of wilding pines.
What's your favorite travel destination?
Most recently travelled to Taiwan, beautiful mountains and beaches, so safe, accessible and interesting.
What's your favorite adventure activity?
Love trying something new and dabbling with whatever the season offers - surfing, climbing, tramping (overnight hiking), and cycling.
What has been your most inspiring adventure experience?
Probably cycling through Taiwan’s East Coast - getting off the main roads, riding through the mountains and small towns, and seeing a completely different side of the country.
When did you first get the travel bug?
From exploring around New Zealand growing up. I’ve always been keen to see what’s around the next corner, and that eventually turned into traveling overseas too.
What is your favorite trip to lead?
The Ultimate South Island Adventure for the amazing natural beauty but also the North Island trips to explore more of the country!
Why did you want to guide for Active Adventures?
It combines two things I love: being outdoors and meeting people. I’d love to share the places I enjoy with people experiencing New Zealand for the first time.
What's a destination you'd like to travel to, that you haven't been to yet?
South America - particularly Patagonia. The mountains, hiking and wild landscapes are a huge draw.
Do you have any favorite hobbies or special talents?
I love learning practical skills and tend to get a bit obsessed with whatever I'm currently into - at the moment 4-Wheel Driving and bike packing.
