Welcome to Baja California Sur!

Today you'll arrive at the airport in San Jose del Cabo where you'll be met by your guide and transferred to Todos Santos and Los Colibris Casitas, about a 90 minute drive. Upon arrival we'll get you settled into your lovely rooms with beautiful ocean views, then we'll have a gourmet taco welcome dinner at Iker's Colibris Cafe. During dinner your guides will host a trip briefing, outlining the adventures to come.

Pacific Bluffs Cliff Walk

This morning, awaken your body to prepare for this week's adventure with an optional yoga class on the Los Colibris Yoga Sky Deck. After breakfast, we head out for our Pacific Bluffs Cliff Walk starts at Punta Lobos, the sweeping Pacific beach where the local fishermen of Todos Santos launch their boats each morning and bring in the daily catch each afternoon. A quick walk up the hill brings us to breath-taking views of a different kind of coastline, with dramatic rocky outcroppings and crashing surf. We're likely to spot whales from this high vantage point during several months of the year.

Throughout the walk we'll have the stunning combination of desert landscape running to the sea. We'll pass an active sea lion colony, as well as the ruins of the shipping port Los Algodones. Your guide will offer in-depth commentary on the terrific variety of flora and fauna you see, as well as the history of the area from the human perspective. We will arrive at the idyllic beach of San Pedro where a picnic lunch will be waiting. After some time to relax we will make our way back to our casitas.

Sea of Cortez & Camp Cecil - kayaking, snorkeling and paddle-boarding

We're off to Isla Espiritu Santo and Camp Cecil today! After breakfast we'll go to our bodega to get snorkeling gear and wet suits, then it's on to the boats and out into the Sea of Cortez! Camp Cecil is on Isla Espiritu Santo which is in a National Marine Park, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the best marine life viewing destinations in the world. Whales, dolphins, whale sharks, sea turtles, manta rays and plenty of beautiful tropical fish call the surrounding waters home, while a terrific range of bird species including Blue-footed Boobies, Reddish Egrets, Great Blue Herons and Yellow-footed Gulls frequent the island's skies and shores. The island itself is stunning, with magnificent towering cliffs, spectacular sandy bays, amazing lava rock formations, and rock art left by the now-extinct Guaycura and Pericu Indians. There's even an endemic ring-tailed cat, the babisuri. It's a remarkable place to explore.

After we get settled into our tents and camp life and enjoy a tasty lunch, we can enjoy some kayaking, snorkeling or standup paddle boarding along the island's beautiful coastline. Maybe get in a hike for some wonderful views. Happy hour followed by dinner under the stars awaits you this evening.

Sea Lion Colony and Island Exploration by kayak or paddleboard

This morning we'll head out for the indescribable joy of swimming with the sea lions at the permanent sea lion colony of Los Islotes. And it's not just the sea lions that make Los Islotes so wonderful - it has a fantastic reef with a remarkable array of tropical fish which makes it a great place for snorkeling. It's a magical place to explore. On the way back to camp we may stop to explore/hike some of the beautiful pink rock canyons of the island.

Chef will have a wonderful lunch waiting for us when we get back, then after our siesta we can do more island exploration in kayaks and paddleboards.
Accommodation: Camp Cecil, Isla Espiritu Santo

Isla Espiritu Santo

Spend another beautiful day on Isla Espiritu where you can explore at your own rate. Jump into the water again to swim, snorkel, or paddle board among the creatures below. Or choose to stay on land and watch the tropical birds putting on magnificent colorful displays and singing their exotic tunes while relaxing on the beach.

Swimming with Whale Sharks / Mexican Cooking Class

Today we'll depart Camp Cecil and head for one of our most exciting adventures yet - swimming with the whale sharks, so named because at up to 59 feet and 15 tons they are definitely a whale of a shark. In fact, they are the largest fish in the world. And while your mother probably told you to stay away from sharks, these gentle giants are only interested in plankton.

In the afternoon we'll return to Todos Santos and Los Colibris Casitas. This evening local lawyer turned chef Iker Algorri, author of Cooking Adventures in Baja California Sur and chef-in-residence at Los Colibris Casitas, will lead a wonderful mexican cooking class. The emphasis is on having as much fun as humanly possible, learning to make the perfect margarita, and gaining the skill to make some truly memorable Mexican dishes following Chef Iker’s cooking philosophy, the Magnificence of Simplicity. You'll also probably learn about some great Latin music you've never heard before. But be warned – dancing is often known to follow!
