Some of the main reasons you need insurance:

Medical Emergencies: the best medical treatment is private and you could be in remote locations when an emergency occurs.

Medical Evacuation: to help you get home if you’re injured or seriously ill and need to end your trip early.

Trip Cancellation: there can be unavoidable circumstances (illness, family problems, change of job) that may force you to cancel your trip at short notice.

Flight delays: airline strikes and bad weather do happen and they result in travel delays and itinerary changes.

Lost luggage: if your airline delays your luggage and you need to purchase items to continue on your trip
