Daily itinerary

Day 1—Arrive Quito

Your trip begins in Ecuador’s capital city, Quito. If you’re flying in early today, you’ll have a chance to journey to the city from the airport (or your hotel) to explore the beautiful town squares, quaint cafés and colonial architecture. Quito sits in a beautiful valley surrounded by towering volcanoes just 22 kilometres (14 miles) from the equator, giving it a mild, spring-like climate year round. In the evening, you’ll meet your trip leader and the rest of your group back at the joining hotel, for a full briefing and our first dinner together.
Hotel EB, Quito (Dinner)

Day 2—Fly to the Galapagos, cycle San Cristobal highlands

This morning we’ll take a short flight to San Cristobal, the easternmost island of the Galapagos Islands chain and home of the provincial capital, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. After lunch, we’ll head to the town of La Soledad to bike down through the lush highland cloud forest that blankets the top of the island. With stunning views of the coast, we’ll ride to La Loberia, a beach that is home to a large sea lion colony and nursery. You’re not likely to see this many sea lions in one place anywhere else in the world! This evening, we’ll dine on local produce and fresh fish.
Casa Blanca or Blue Marlin, San Cristobal (All meals)

Day 3—Snorkel with sea lions, turtles and sharks at Isla Lobos and Kicker Rock

Today we’ll cruise to Isla Lobos off the coast of San Cristobal, where we’ll don wet suits, snorkels and masks (and tanks for the divers – diving option add US$250) to explore the underwater world for a close up view of sea lions as they fish for their dinner! Isla Lobos is home to some of the main sea lion, frigate bird and blue-footed booby colonies in the area.

After a swim with the sea lions, we’ll get back on our boat and head for Kicker Rock, where we’ll either snorkel or take two dives around the remains of an underwater volcano with a rock face rising 150 metres (500 feet) above the surface of the water. Your trip leader will give you a full briefing and then we’ll take to the water to explore the walls of the volcano. There will be chances to see beautiful tropical fish, turtles and sharks as they skirt the edges of Kicker Rock! Afterwards we’ll visit a picturesque bay to have lunch and a rest before returning to port. Then it’s off to the interpretation centre to learn a little about the history and biology of the islands. Later there will be an optional hike to Frigate Hill Lookout to see the acrobatics of the local frigate birds as they dart around the cliff tops stealing the catch from other birds.
Casa Blanca or Blue Marlin, San Cristobal (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 4—Snorkel and hike Floreana Island

After an early breakfast, our boat will take us away from San Cristobal Island towards the magnificent Floreana Island. Floreana is the sixth largest island in the Galapagos chain and one of the least inhabited (by humans at least!). With
a population of around 120, this place has a pretty relaxed atmosphere. On the way, we’re often visited by friendly dolphins, so keep an eye out! And later, we’ll hike into the highlands of Floreana, where we’ll learn about the mysterious history of the islands as we visit the pirate caves and the area where the first inhabitants once lived. Then it’s back down to our accommodation in the tiny port of Puerto Velasco Ibarra – a fantastic hideaway lodge with incredible sea views and a great sunset!

Hotel Wittmer, Floreana Island (All meals)

Day 5—Journey to Isabela, snorkel Tintoreras

This morning we’ll head to Isabela Island, the largest of all the islands in the Galapagos archipelago. After lunch, we’ll head out on small local boats to check out the crystal-clear waters of the Tintoreras rock outcrop. Keep an eye out for rays, marine iguanas, reef sharks, herons and the Galapagos penguin – the only penguins found close to the equator. Later, we’ll don our snorkels and masks again to explore the clear waters of this great snorkelling area. This calm and shallow body of water is home to sea turtles, and a multitude of colourful fish species.
Hotel Albemarle, Isabela Island (All meals)

Day 6—Hike Sierra Negra volcano, Volcan Chico lava fields

Our hike today will take us to the summit of Sierra Negra volcano. See the lowland vegetation change before your eyes as we ascend through a lunar-like landscape on our way to the top. It’s a challenging hike to the top of the volcano, and the views across the seven mile wide crater and surrounding coastline are well worth the climb! This is one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world, and one of the most active. As we hike, we might be lucky enough to see Galapagos hawks, short-eared owls, finches and fly-catchers that inhabit this region.

Optional: Snorkel "the tunnels" (add US$150)

An alternative option today is to get back in the water, to snorkel one of the gems of the Galapagos archipelago; Los Tuneles. We’ll take a boat ride to the tunnels, where you’ll see an intricate network of arches and islets all formed from past lava eruptions. There are a few spots to walk on the rocks, though the main activity is snorkelling to explore the water channels, where you’ll see sleeping reef sharks, hungry sea turtles, colourful starfish and tiny seahorses! In terms of biodiversity, this is one of the very best spots in the Galapagos Islands.

When we get back from our hike, we’ll head to Beto’s beachside bar to toast the setting sun over the Pacific.
Hotel Albemarle, Isabela Island (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 7—Kayak Isabela Bay, visit giant tortoise breeding centre

This morning we’ll start with an early morning kayak in the calm waters of Isabela Bay. Here we’ll have the chance to see some of the Island’s most amazing wildlife up close. Marine iguanas bask in the sun, blue-footed boobies sit in pairs on the rock tops, and Sally Lightfoot crabs scurry out of our way along the water’s edge. In the clear waters below us, rays gracefully swim by and turtles pop up for a breath of air. Later, we’ll head to a Galapagos giant tortoise breeding centre where we can meet these majestic prehistoric creatures. You’ll have this afternoon to find a hammock on the beach and relax, or explore on your own.
Hotel Albemarle, Isabela Island (All meals)

Day 8—Hike Santa Cruz highlands and Tortuga Bay, visit giant tortoises

We’ll depart Isabela Island early this morning bound for Santa Cruz Island, where we’ll hike into the amazing cloud forest highlands. Once there, we’ll have our only chance to see giant tortoises in their natural environment, along with intriguing birdlife like the vermillion flycatcher, and we’ll take a look inside the lava tunnels scattered throughout the highlands. These tunnels were formed by molten lava flowing beneath the surface, which left behind large tube-like caves, some almost a mile long! This afternoon we’ll hike to Tortuga Bay, one of the most stunning beaches in the Galapagos, where we’ll have the option of trying our hand at body-boarding or surfing, or just lounging around on the incredibly fine sand. Tortuga Bay is accessible only by foot and is home to hundreds of prehistoric-looking marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies and pelicans.
Posada del Mar Hotel, Santa Cruz Island (All meals)

Day 9 —Charles Darwin Research Station, return to Quito

This morning, we’ll visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about the breeding programs that are saving vulnerable species of tortoises and land iguanas. Also there will be a chance to see different types of carapace that help differentiate the tortoise species. Afterwards, we’ll take a short flight back to Quito on the mainland. This evening,  we’ll share our final celebratory dinner together in Ecuador.
Hotel EB, Quito (All meals)

Day 10—Quito, depart for home

Today is the last day of your ‘Tortuga’ trip. We’ll make sure you return home relaxed and refreshed from all the great activities, fine food and friendly people you will have met while travelling with us in the Galapagos Islands. See the itinerary for the ‘Tapir & Tortuga’ trip if you want to take a  few more days to see more of mainland Ecuador as well.

Useful Info

No Forced Single Supplement:

Most other travel companies charge all solo travellers a single supplement fee. We don't! When it comes to accommodation, our trip fares are based on a twin-share rate, which means we'll match you up with another person of the same gender to share a room with. If there's no one suitable to share with, there's no forced single supplement! Having said that, if you specifically request your own room, you can opt to pay the additional single supplement fee.

Recommended flights:

You can fly into Quito airport (UIO) any time on the first day of your trip, though we recommend you arrive before noon. On the last day of your trip you can fly out at any time. If you want to arrive earlier or leave later, we’re happy to help you out with extra hotel accommodation.

Trip start:

If you arrive on the first day of the trip, you’ll be free to check into your hotel near the airport and then explore Quito. You’ll meet your trip leader and the rest of your group in the lobby of the Hotel EB at 6.30pm.

Trip end:

You’ll wake up in Quito on the last day of your trip, so you can book a flight home departing any time that day – we’ll be happy to drop you off at the airport any time. If you need to book your departing flight for earlier you can fly out from Quito anytime after 7pm on Saturday evening. If you want to arrive prior to your trip starting, or leave later, we're happy to help out with extra hotel accommodation bookings too.

Accommodation:

The 'Tortuga' is an active adventure trip around the Galapagos Islands, not a tour of the fanciest hotels! We stay in clean, comfortable and interesting accommodation and, unlike many other operators, we prefer to stay on the mainland rather than on live-aboard boats. This means you can interact more with the local communities and have better opportunities to hike and cycle as well as snorkel and dive. Many of the places we stay are off-the-beaten-track and truly spectacular. For instance, Isabela Island isn’t known for its glamorous lodgings, but has stunning beaches, an abundance of wildlife, off-the-beaten-track flavour and rustic charm. While we do our best to stay at the hotels we’ve mentioned in the itinerary, some of the locations we stay in have limited accommodation options, so we may need use other equivalent hotels from time to time.

Flexibility:

Galapagos National Park is a fragile wildlife refuge and as such is sometimes subject to sudden rule changes that minimise potential damage through tourism. We may occasionally need to make itinerary changes in response to this. The Galapagos Islands are in a developing part of the world and we can’t tell you that everything runs like clockwork there. What we can tell you is that we are experienced adventure travel leaders, and our Galapagos operator is a local specialist who knows how to keep things operating as smoothly as possible, even when conditions are challenging! Often, because of changing sea conditions, we may need to make small changes to our itinerary for your safety and comfort. If you bring flexibility, an open mind and a sense of humour, you’ll find your trip is everything that adventure should be.

Diving in the Galapagos:

Kicker Rock is one of the most interesting dive spots in the world. Our dive guides are all highly qualified with years of dive experience. If you’re a diver and would like to dive on the trip, there is an additional fee of US$250 for two dives plus a safety dive, including all the necessary gear. Please note: due to strong currents, the Galapagos is not a destination for novice divers. We recommend you have logged at least 10 dives before diving here and you must bring your PADI or SSI certification to dive.

Kayaking in the Galapagos:

The sea conditions in the Galapagos can be pretty varied, so we haven’t named a specific time for kayaking. If you’re keen to kayak, rest assured you will at some stage, when the conditions are right.

Fitness:

The ‘Tortuga’ is an active trip, and has options to suit a wide range of fitness levels and outdoor experience. If you keep reasonably active and like to give things a go, you’re likely to enjoy the trip much more.

They were clean, comfortable with nice views. Pepo was a very knowledgeable guide. He did all he could to make us comfortable and to get full benefits of our swims. The food was very good - liked the local diet. Would recommend this trip to anyone.”

  • Tortuga

“Fantastic! The beauty of the islands was exceptional. The ecology and environment were so important and so well explained by the guides. Best and most knowledgeable guides I have ever had the honor of being around. This trip will live in my memory forever, as will the smiles and laughter of everyone there!”

  • Exceeded Expectations!

“Outstanding trip from start to finish. Booking, organization, travel arrangements, logistics, lodgings, excursions, meals... all handled flawlessly. Our guide, Pepo, was so impressive. Superb knowledge of all things Galapagos - marine life, flora & fauna, geography, geology, history and culture. His personality, sense of humor and patience with all of us was wonderful. The snorkeling, scuba, hiking & kayaking were all very nice, and Carlos (dive guide) was great too. Meals were all very good and arranged expertly. Sea Lions and tortoises were ubiquitous (like pigeons in Chicago...they are everywhere). Blue footed boobies; great frigate birds exhibiting their trademark 'inflated red bellies', iguanas galore...just a few of the highlights. We are big fans of Active Adventures (and now Galakiwi) having now experienced this as well as New Zealand's South island in 2017, and we'll likely be back for more! Thanks for a great experience!”

  • A New Appreciation for Animals and Nature

“This trip opened my eyes to all of the incredible wildlife and nature that exists on the Galapagos Islands, but also carried over to when I returned home. I started to notice and appreciate all the little things around me more often, so I am truly grateful for what this trip has given me in my life.”
    Sydney Donati-Leach – Colorado, United StatesSeptember 2018
  • Pepo was Amazing!

“Pepo was amazing! Patient, funny, spent his down time with us, got to know us! Loved the Galapagos aquatic animals, and especially going on the Los Tuneles extra trip. Well worth it! Great lodging, and food was excellent. It was important to me that we stayed on land, and very glad we did, no seasickness for me! Will recommend this trip to everyone!”

  • The Wonder of the Galapagos

“Pablo was our guide on this amazing journey to the Galápagos. He has been nominated as one of the ten best guides in the world by Wanderlust. He was truly superb, filling us with so much knowledge about his wonderful world. The food was tasty, the accommodations were clean, comfortable, close to all the action, with ocean views from every room. All the plans went smoothly, and we even experienced our first earthquake on Isabela. ”
Terri Donati – Colorado, United StatesAugust 2018

  • True Vacation

“This was the best trip I have ever been on! I am a school teacher and have the luxury of summers off. Last summer I was sitting around without plans and thought, “I need to go on a trip!” I have not been on a big trip before because I was skeptical of traveling alone. I have few friends who share my passion for international travel and have the finances and circumstances to justify a vacation like this. The first decision I had to make was to decide where I wanted to go. Choosing the Galápagos was easy because my favorite animal is a tortoise! After going on the vacation, I have no complaints other than I wish I could have stayed there longer. Our local Galakiwi guide, Pepo, was so knowledgeable about the islands and I learned so much about the history, animals, plants, and culture of the Galapagos. I built incredible relationships with everyone on my trip that made me realize that as humans, we are never alone. There is always going to be someone just as adventurous, just as silly, just as goofy, just as nervous, just as shy, and just as crazy as you! I will definitely be going on another Active Adventures trip in the future. I felt very well taken care of and never had to worry or think about what I would eat or what activities were planned for the day. I have already recommended this company to all my friends and family. BEST VACATION EVER!”
Julianna Strickland – Texas, United StatesJuly 2018
  • Amazing Trip

“Amazing trip. Pepo was a fantastic guide with knowledge about history, geography etc of the islands. He could answer just about every question.”

  • Tortoises, Turtles, Iguanas...What a Trip!

“This is our 3rd trip with Active - previously we have travelled to Peru and New Zealand - and again LOVED it. From the moment we arrived in Quito to our last day there, we were treated as honorable guests participating in an amazing adventure in South America. Well done Active. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone who wants to hike, swim, kayak and most importantly see the beautiful fauna and flora in this relatively remote space of our planet - the Galapagos.”
Roys Ellinas – Wisconsin, United StatesJune 2018
  • Amazing Galapagos!

“This was our third trip with Active Adventures (we have also completed Active Trips in Peru and New Zealand), and like the others, this one was completely amazing!
As usual, everything in the trip was well planned and executed.
Our guide, Zambo, was knowledgeable, organized, and unfailingly optimistic, taking any bumps (rainy weather, our lack of snorkeling experience) absolutely in stride.
The Galapagos Tortuga trip has a very nice variety of activities, including kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, biking, and visits to conservation areas, so you are never bored. Since this was a concern for me, I will add that I am 53 years old, exercise 30-60 min per day at home, and I made the trip without a problem – although if you want even more exercise, the opportunity is certainly there.
This trip is particularly amazing because it stays on the islands and not on boats. This both supports the local people and helps you get to know the culture. No other way to do it, in my opinion!
    Another amazing active adventure!
Libby Ellinas – Wisconsin, United StatesJune 2018
  • Interesting and unusual

“I’ve been interested the Galápagos Islands since learning about them in school, so it was wonderful to finally see them and their fascinating creatures in real life. The first surprise was how many humans actually live full time there - 30,000 on the four inhabited islands. I had always envisioned the islands as having no human habitation, except maybe scientists! We were able to see many of the well-known animal inhabitants, both on land and underwater, including blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, sea iguanas, green sea turtles, rays, lots of fish, and, of course, the giant tortoises. Visiting the giant tortoise breeding centers was really interesting. The snorkeling was fun, albeit a little chilly out in the open water. Where we snorkeled in more protected water, it was warmer. The hotels we stayed in were wonderful - nearly all facing the water, with clean and comfortable rooms. The meals were excellent, and our only complaint was there being too much food at times! Because this is a land-based trip, we traveled by speed boat between destinations. We were lucky that the seas were fairly calm, because we heard it can get rough sometimes. Our guide, who went by the nickname Zambo, grew up in the islands and was excellent - attentive, helpful, and organized. This was our third Active Adventures trip, and as far as this one being “active”, it was less so than the others, which makes it suitable for a wider range of travelers.”
Ann Zeman – Washington, United StatesJune 2018
  • Wow!

“We got to see everything you've always heard of in the Galapagos.”
Ken Zeman – Washington, United StatesJune 2018
  • Great Tortuga Trip

“This trip operated like a well oiled machine. Very organized and well run. The highlight for me was the flora and fauna and the protections in place to make sure the environment thrives.”

  • Galapagos Adventure

“My Galapagos adventure was a great experience. I had never snorkled before, so I can't believe I actually snorkeled with amazing creatures, including sharks, turtles, and sea lions. Our group experienced an extra bonus swimming with a huge school of golden rays. Zambo was a wonderful guide: so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all aspects of the trip. His good cheer was infectious and gave our group great 'karma.'”
Andrea Rudolph – New York, United StatesJune 2018

“Zambo was a fantastic guide. So knowledgable and full of enthusiasm. The Galapagos was unbelievable. More than I would have expected. We had a great group of people on this trip with us. We have made friends with all of them and treated each other like family. ”

  • Amazing Adventure Led by Guide of the Century!

“As a 71 year old not really active senior, I was a bit leery about joining this adventure, but my friends talked me into it. Thanks to our compassionate, passionate, caring guide Pablo, I was able to participate in every expedition (I chose snorkeling the tunnels rather than hiking the volcano!) and learned more about the Galapagos islands and its flora, fauna, and geography than I ever thought possible.”
Susan Ze – Arizona, United StatesMay 2018
  • An Amazing Adventure

“What a fabulous trip! Everything was so well-organized and all of the people involved were fabulous. We got the guide of the century having Pablo as our naturalist. Pablo managed to have a surprise for us each and every day. It was like he special-ordered all the best from weather to food to unusual plants and animals each day. We saw so many plants and animals that I'd never seen before. It was incredible to come across tortoises in the wild and this was the first time I'd seen flamingos in the wild and got to see them fly. That was spectacular. It was great to get to snorkel nearly every day. Swimming with the sea lions, tortoises, hammerheads, reef sharks was memorable. I loved seeing a bryde whale and the manta rays on one of our travel days on the boat as well as a bird feeding frenzy after our snorkel at Kicker Rock. All of the boat captains did a fabulous job maneuvering the boats for the best views and photos of the wildlife and scenery. The kayaking day at Isabela was one of our favorite days. What a gorgeous bay! I would have loved to have stayed on Isabela for one more day so that we could have gone on the Sierra Negra hike AND go snorkeling at Los Tuneles. We had to choose one or the other, but it would be great to do both (based on the pictures I saw). This is a terrific company and I will definitely recommend you to others. Thanks for a great experience.”
Georganne Nuger – California, United StatesMay 2018
  • You Had Me At Sea Turtles

“The Galapagos was everything I expected and then some! Zambo was a perfect guide and our group was terrific. We had talked about a land based trip vs. a sea based, and although I love the idea of staying on the water, I get sea sick in a bath tub. I liked being on land so we could explore the towns we were in and appreciate the Galapagos culture.”
Lori Alter – Texas, United StatesMay 2018
  • 10 Days in Paradise

  • What a Wonderful Experience!

“Overall, the Tortuga trip exceeded our expectations. Our guides Zambo and Paulo were great, travel was easy, the hotels and food were excellent, and the wildlife viewing was better than I had hoped. I really like the "active" part of the Active Adventures tours.”

  • This Trip Was My Wife's Lifelong Dream - and it Came TRUE!

“Galapagos is simply amazing. If you love to experience wildlife nose to nose this is the place. Sea Lions, Iguana, Pelicans, Sea Turtles, Giant Tortoises, Sharks, Blue Heron etc. Snorkeling, hiking - we loved it all. A great trip for adults, and your kids if they swim and snorkel. This is a wildlife adventure to remember forever.”

  • Best Vacation Ever!

“I decided to tag along with my friends on this trip, without having given too much thought about the Galapagos prior and it ended up being an amazing experience! We had ample opportunities to get up close to the wildlife and experience the unique environment. Pepo was a wealth of knowledge and taught us all so much about the geology, biology, history and culture of the islands. Going through this journey as a group was a wonderful experience, allowing us to connect and share our collective appreciation of the islands, their wildlife, and their people. I would highly recommend this adventure to anyone considering it and is looking for an engaging way to experience the islands up-close and take in all they have to offer.”

“I am so happy that I booked my Galapagos adventure with Active Adventures/Galakiwi. It was just what I was looking for - a great balance of a good variety of activities and learning about the biodiversity of the Galapagos Islands with a small group of like-minded individuals. A land-based trip is the way to go, leaving more tourist dollars in the local economy. I can't speak highly enough about the organization and logistics of the company - or the enthusiasm and knowledge of our tour guide, Pablo. New friends and incredible sights with memories to last a lifetime.”

“My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Galapagos adventure. It was full of things we expected - seamless planning and execution, beautiful scenery, fascinating wildlife, comfortable lodgings and a superb guide - and things we didn't expect, such as an excellent dinner in a highlands lodge and porpoises frolicking in the bow wave of our boat. We enjoyed the variety of activities and the chance to stay on four islands, giving us a feel for the culture, as well as the natural world of the Galapagos.”

  • Absolutely the Trip of a Lifetime!

“Not that I expected anything less from Active, but this trip was phenomenal. I could not have been happier with the caliber of the staff, the hotels, and the activities. I also asked for some changes at the last minute that Active and the whole local staff were more than willing to accommodate. I was incredibly grateful for their kindness and service. I actually showed up on the trip with a severe cold and got even more sick for a couple of days on the trip - and it was still one of the best trips of my life!”
Shannon Arts – Virginia, United States of AmericaJanuary 2018
  • A Magical Experience!

“When I first learned of the Galapagos in 9th grade biology class, I never dreamed that I would one day visit this magical place! There is an incredible uniqueness about the wildlife that you will not find anywhere else. I loved watching the sea lions interact with each other and teasing the marine Iguanas around the rocks. There were dozens of sea turtles and hundreds of colorful fish, beautiful red crabs, majestic sting rays, playful dolphins, colorful blue footed boobies, prehistoric gigantic tortoises and the cutest penguins I have ever seen! Our guide Zambo was exceptional! He was so passionate about sharing the culture and history of the islands - not to mention truly an expert in "everything Galapagos". I highly recommend this trip with Active Adventures and I loved my stay on the islands! It will always have a special place in my heart!”
Zina Cappiello – New Jersey, United StatesJanuary 2018
  • Magical!

“I don't usually gravitate toward organized tours, but this has changed my mind. Everyday was a magical adventure and well-paced. Pepo was so knowledgeable, friendly and just a warm person. I loved that everyday we did something active - I think I was healthier on vacation than I am in real life! The Galapagos was a trip of a lifetime and this tour made sure that I saw everything I could see. Additionally, I learned so much about the wildlife and conservation that I will continue to provide random facts to my friends and family for years. Words cannot express how much I loved this trip and this adventure. It really has opened up my eyes.”

  • Galapagos Rocks!

“There are not enough superlatives to describe the trip and our guide Pepo. I think it is best summed up by saying that the emotional, physical and spiritual impact of seeing and interacting with the animals in the wild is mind bending and almost overwhelming. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and insightful. I do believe that he could teach at any university in the US! He and his staff (Juan-Carlos and Paolo) made sure that we were all having the experience of a lifetime. I would like to say that Pepo should be pulled from the field to teach other guides but that would be depriving the next luck group who might get him of an amazing experience. ”
Michael Arts – Wisconsin, United StatesDecember 2017
  • Like Being in a Travel Magazine Article!

“There are not enough superlatives to describe our Tortuga adventure. Every day was like being part of a travel magazine article - beautiful, serene, interesting, educational, awesome, incredible, unique..and that's just the start. EVERYTHING was fantastic from start to finish - the accommodations, guides, food and OF COURSE - the nature, culture and history.”

  • Galapagos Trip with Active Adventures August 2017

“I have been on several international trips, and due to the variety and how different each trip is, I don't tend to like to pick a favorite. At least until my trip to the Galapagos with Active Adventures. I can honestly say that this was the most amazing trip I have ever been on! We got to do a huge variety of activities and really get the full Galapagos experience. Our guide, Zambo, was absolutely phenomenal, I could not have asked for a better person to have lead us on our trip. Zambo definitely was a significant factor in making our trip as amazing as it was. From snorkeling and seeing sharks, rays, eels, and sea lions, to biking, to hiking, we did and saw so many different, amazing things. I will remember this trip forever.”
Alanna Thompson – Ontario, CanadaSeptember 2017
  • Trip of a Lifetime

“The Galapagos Islands was on my daughter's bucket list after she took an eco course in university. Thank goodness for education! It was by far my favorite trip I have taken, and my 6th continent visited. It was the perfect balance of active adventure, nature, education and leisure. Our guide Zambo was fantastic! It was an amazing experience from day 1 and each day just got better and better. Every island we visited offered us something new and different. Snorkelling at Kicker Rock and having reef sharks surround us was unbelievable. The marine life was incredible. Black tip reef sharks, an eagle ray, sea turtles .. were all the highlight ... but the amount of fish we saw was amazing. A diver in our group saw hammerhead sharks! We chose the Galapagos for the wildlife and we weren't disappointed. Friendly sea lions and iguanas were everywhere. We saw everything we had hoped and even more. On the way to Floreana Island we had dolphins swim and jump beside the boat; but what was even more wonderful was the 3 humpback whales - a calf and its parents. The calf was quite interested in our boat and came right up to us. We sat on the hull for 30-40 minutes and watched the whales surface and "play" around our boat ... an experience that none of us will ever forget. We were all in awe! Seeing those magnificent creatures in their natural habitat was surreal.
From biking to hiking to kayaking to snorkelling we were kept busy and active, which was good since the food was fantastic! Every place we stayed at and ate at was fantastic. I love how Active Adventures supports the local economy and so many different businesses benefitted from our tour.
It was by far the best vacation I have taken so far. Everything was perfect! And I cant say enough about Zambo ... he took care of all of us!!! He was our mother, mentor and educator! Thank you Active Adventures for giving Alanna and I a trip of a lifetime!”

  • Truly a Trip of a Lifetime

“When friends ask "how was your trip?", the words fail me. I wish I could share the incredible moments with them. How do you describe the magic of snorkelling with dolphins in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean, or feeling like you've befriended a sea lion? We can't say enough about our trip with Active Adventures. What an incredible trip!”

  • Awesome Galapagos

“What a great adventure and experience among the wildlife of Galapagos. It's amazing to be able to see so much and be right next to these wonderful animals.
Pepo was excellent in every way throughout the trip and I can highly recommend both him and Active Adventures to anyone. We will definitely do more trips with Active.”

  • Galapagos, Fabulous Week!

“I enjoyed our trip to the Galapagos very much. I don't think I realized how much I was learning while I was in the islands. It was only after returning state side that I began reflecting, and was amazed at how much I learned about how both the marine, and land animals, have adjusted to life in The Galapagos. It's truly an amazing place!!”
Emily Eberle – Tennessee, United StatesJune 2017
  • Perfect Blend of Activities

“The trip was just the right mix of planned activities and personal time. The snorkeling, hikes, kayaking, informational tours and bike trips were not too strenuous and a great way to explore the wonders of this remarkable place. Our guide, Pablo, was extremely knowledgeable about the place he has called home for 20+ years. His guiding and people skills are among the best I have experienced. We weren't just playing; we were learning every minute of the trip in an enjoyable and casual way. I would heartily recommend this trip to young and old!”

  • Galapagos 2017

“If the idea of snorkeling with sea lions, turtles, and penguins all on the same day, is your cup of tea, (and it is mine!) then this trip is for you. And that's only the tip of the iceberg! Sorry, no icebergs in Ecuador, but the water can be surprisingly cool because of ocean currents.
The naturalists who accompany you throughout the trip are extremely good, and are passionate about conveying to you their love and knowledge of Galapagos. You experience 4 islands on this tour and if you do excursions on your own you can have even more. Each island offers a unique experience. While there are many ways to see Galapagos, liveaboard vs land based, the extra time afforded you by being land based will give you more memories to cherish. Doug Middlefield CT.”

  • Great Family Trip!

“Our family of 8 adults (25-62) and a baby had a wonderful time on our Galapagos trip guided by Zambo. It was interesting, well-organized and fun. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, the food was fresh and delicious, and all the staff were courteous and helpful. They even provided us with strollers, porta-cribs, high chairs and a bike trailer!”

  • Galapagos Greatness!

“The Tortuga trip to the Galapagos Islands was led by an **outstanding** tour guide, Pepo. He exuded passion, pride, and respect for the islands and the creatures that inhabit it. Pepo demonstrated the perfect balance of providing the right level of information to where we felt educated but no so much as to bog us down. Accommodations were very nice along the trip. The activities and "Super Plans" we participated in were invaluable to making our Galapagos experience great! The other wonderful people I met in this group were entertaining and engaging. I'm thankful to have gone on this trip with these great people! ”
David Deutsch – Minnesota, United StatesMay 2017
  • Perfectly Flawless From Start to Finish

“From the moment we arrived on the tour, every detail was well thought through and all we had to do was put on our hiking shoes and enjoy. Our guide Pepo was very friendly and had tons of knowledge about the Galapagos, he knew how to explain the ecology of the environment in an engaging, interesting way and you never ever felt like you were sitting in a boring lecture. This tour allowed us to explore these amazing islands in an active, adventurous way with enough activities that you never got bored but you were also allowed time to explore the towns on your own, go on another bike ride or just put your feet up. Pepo also always helped us know what was coming next and helping us to be fully prepared for that days activity. There were no surprises (which was a good thing!) and everything was well organized so we never aimlessly waited around or wasted time thinking about what to do next. If you love to explore nature in an active way, this trip is an amazing one to do!”

  • Loved our Tortuga trip.

“We loved taking this land based tour of the Galapagos. Staying at hotels on the islands allowed us a lot more flexibility and was great for our grandchildren since they had lots of time to play on the beaches in the evenings. We saw all the animals I hoped to see plus the activities were a lot of fun, especially the snorkeling. We loved Zambo our guide. He was friendly, helpful and very informative plus he took great underwater videos for us.”
Diane Morse – Virginia, United StatesApril 2017
  • Incredible experience

“We had an amazing time in the Galapagos!
Everything was perfectly organized for us. All we had to do was show up - just as it said in the description of the tour.
Our tour guide Zambo would always tell us well in advance what we would be doing on the next day, what we had to bring, what we should wear.
The food was always organized for us; they would always ask us beforehand what we wanted to eat.
Everywhere we went they were expecting us and everything went smoothly.
Zambo was an amazing guide! He was extremely knowledgeable. He had an answer for everything and he was very patient with our kids. One could see that he enjoyed showing his home to us.
The encounters with the animals were truly amazing. We saw blue footed boobies, frigate birds, hammerhead sharks, eagle rays, sting rays, penguins, hundreds of sea lions, sea iguanas, etc.
The animals seemed at ease with the humans around them in some cases almost curious.”

  • Simply said: Excellent

“We’ve booked our trip with Active Adventures from NZ but ended up with Galakiwi Adventures as the implementing party. A bit confusing at the beginning but it turned out quite well.
Our trip through the Galapagos Islands started in San Cristobal, followed by Floreana, Isabela and ended in Santa Cruz.
We booked an all-inclusive trip and it turned out to be a very good decision. In fact we realized only after a few days how convenient is was to have everything organized for you and how much time you can actually safe. Starting with swimming gear that is provided as part of the package. Transportation to the ferry, getting on & off, having the transportation ready when you arrive, all those organizational aspects are taken care off which makes travelling from island to island very easy and smooth. Then hotels are ready, check in & out done super fast, luggage’s pick up etc. all organized. Lunch and/or dinners arranged in advance to maximize the vacation time and reduce wasted time to a bare minimum. What else to say besides that the organization was simply said excellent!!!
Then we had Zambo our tour guide, a fantastic & very knowledgeable person.
Not only questions from adults were not a problem for him, our kids and the other families kids who were also part of the group constantly came up with all sorts of questions and somehow, Zambo always had an answer.
All of this made it a great vacation; we enjoyed it a lot”

  • Not a thing missing from this trip!

“Our guide, Jess, was absolutely perfect. She was extremely knowledgeable about the Galápagos and amazing with the logistics and organizational part of the trip. We waited for nothing and had top-notch service everywhere we went. Award-winning trip in every way. I would not hesitate to book with Active Adventures again. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ”
Beth Edison – New Brunswick, CanadaApril 2017
  • “Everything ran absolutely as seamlessly as possible, Congrats to the Active Adventures team. The weather was perfect. Our guide, Pepo was terrific. He was attentive to all of our needs and safety, and fielded every question with depth of knowledge and intelligence. As a native of the Island he is sensitive and cares deeply about their well being and continuance. This showed through in all his words and actions. He displayed kindness and humor and was generally just a great traveling companion.

I had read much before my trip and was not let down by what the Islands had to offer. The trip as a whole offered a quite perfect blend of activities, relaxation and unique new experiences. All the accommodations were at least just fine, a couple quite splendid. The food was delicious (fishatarian) and most bountiful.

My only wish is that the airline scheduling involving arrival and then transfers from Quito to the Island worked out a little more smoothly. This is not a criticism of Active Adventures, but more of the airlines. So the bookend of the trip were not nearly the fun of the trip itself.”
David Stromeyer – Texas, United StatesApril 2017
  • “A trip of a lifetime! Like no other place I've ever been. Where Animals coexist with humans in harmony. Wild sea lions play with you as you snorkel, dolphins play with your boat, owls let you walk a hand width from them and giant tortoises are your obstacles as you bike. Pepo our guide was incredible and brought his incredible islands alive through his stories and knowledge! Best trip I've ever been on and would highly reccommend it! Wouldn't change a thing!!”

“Wonderful 30th anniversary trip to the Galapagos -- so glad we were able to explore these amazing islands. A true adventure for two biology majors! We really got a sense of the strong environmental preservation efforts underway there, and were in awe of the amazing land and sea creatures we encountered. Plus a terrific local guide and fun group of co-travelers made this a trip of a lifetime!”

  • The Amazing Galapagos Islands

“This was an amazing trip. The organization could not have been improved! Everything went like clockwork! I'm sure, much to the credit of Pepo! He was amazing - knowledgeable beyond words, fun to be around, great sense of humor and so kind and polite! Our group was small, five in number, and we became friends because of all the adventures that we experienced together. I am loving telling people about the trip! And am loving remember it!

The only suggestion that I would have is that I would have preferred to spend one more night on Isabella and one less night in Quito. ”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our Tortuga trip. Our guide Jessica was fantastic. Everything ran so smoothly, the group all got along and we were so fortunate to visit and explore the lovely Galapagos islands in this way. A land based trip is definitely the way to go. We would highly recommend it. ”

  • BEST TRIP EVER!!!

“This trip was a dream come true with a BIG unexpected surprise...I swam with a whale shark. Active Adventures has thought of everything. You need to bring your clothes, quick dry is a must, and personal items. All activity amenities are supplied, including a long or short sleeve wetsuit. If you use a prescription mask in the water, bring it along. All the work is done for you. Your guide will let you know what time to be ready and off you go. Everything ran on time, no waiting for anything (once we did wait 4 minutes at the airport for the van). Even meals were ordered ahead and served within a few minutes of sitting down. We ate at many of the best restaurants. I felt like a princess. The Galapagos animals even did their part by 'posing' for great pics. We saw all the great sites while our guide educated us on the topic. Our guide, Pablo, is amazing.

The whale shark...while boating between islands, we saw a group of dolphins. Then, we saw the whale shark. Pablo handed out mask a few of us gently jumped in the water to 'swim' with the 30ft long animal. Yes, we have videos thanks to our boat captain and one person with a go pro.

    Active Adventures does it right.”

  • Not Just Tortoises

“As advertised, the trip began and ended in Quito, Ecuador. Everything from then on was taken care of to keep us happy and busy for the ten days. Like a good field trip, we were informed about the hours to come for activities and equipment we needed to bring along. The many exotic animals of the Galapagos Islands are exceedingly wonderful and well protected, with proper information and warnings to us by our professional National Park Guides, always at our sides. The people of our group were all like minded adults who were ready for this Active Adventure, and blended and shared well. The amount of busy time was balanced with some relaxing time. They know how long to keep us moving and when to relax. The meals were fantastic and delicious. The two times we needed to buy a supper gave us the chance to explore and pick something we wanted, large or small. The trip was wonderful. We are so glad we went.”
Jean Cook – Pennsylvania, United StatesFebruary 2017

  • Galapagos - Tortuga Trip

“Wow! The Tortuga tour of the Galapagos Islands was an incredible experience. Active Adventures answered all my questions during the booking process and provided exactly the information I needed to be prepared for the trip. It couldn't have been easier. The guides were AMAZING - - very knowledgeable about the islands and provided a wealth of information about the geology, flora and fauna, wildlife, and culture. They were extremely diligent in making sure that everyone's individual needs were met and that the entire group was loving every minute. This truly was a trip of a lifetime and I can't thank Active Adventures enough for their organization of every detail!!”

  • “There is no way we could have planned all the adventures we had on this trip. The logistics and coordination efforts were well thought out. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to be with. The accommodations were wonderful, food fit for a king and animals to entertain us at every turn. It truly was a trip to remember!!”

  • Amazing Trip

“My wife and I joined this tour as part of our honeymoon trip and we couldn't of been happier. Everything was unbelievably well organized, the accommodations exceeded our expectations, the size of the group was great and there was a good range of activities that enabled us to get a good feel of all the diversity found in the Galápagos Islands.

We have never used a tour company before when travelling as we like to have flexibility, choose our own accommodations, avoid crowds and be active. However, I would definitely recommend Active Adventures to anybody and would definitely do another tour with them.

    Thanks for everything!!”

  • Fantastic Adventure!

“This trip was wonderful on so many levels. It was a perfect experience for our family of three college "kids", my husband and me. We traveled with two other families- a total of eight kids and six adults, a good group size. There was lots to see and do and we appreciated the opportunity to be active! Seeing the wildlife and learning about the Galapagos Islands was fantastic!! Zambo, our naturalist was terrific and related well to children and the adults. One of the unexpected pleasures my husband and I experienced was hearing our children utilize their seven years of middle and high school Spanish as they communicated with locals. Also, needless to say, they were pleased that the drinking age on the Islands is 18. We all enjoyed having a beer at the end of each wonderful day. The December weather was lovely. Comfortably warm and the water was beautiful!! We took full advantage of any extra snorkeling and swimming opportunities.

Our family had an extra day in Quito. We took the opportunity to hire a guide to take us around the city. What a great opportunity it was to learn about so many aspects of Ecuador's capital city. The Equator Museum was great and we enjoyed walking around the Plaza and seeing a couple of churches. Walking to the edge of the Pululhua crater was awesome! Lenin was a terrific guide!”

  • Land-based tours are the way to go!

“We are so glad we chose to do an active, land-based trip rather than take a cruise ship. Staying in small hotels in the various towns on four islands and gaining an appreciation for the locals, the local food and customs was a tremendous addition to the natural beauty of the Galapagos. Knowing that we were contributing to the local economy rather than to a cruise line's bottom line felt good to us. Our guides (Lenin in Quito) and Zambo (on the Galapagos) were outstanding.”
Tom Ward – Massachusetts, United StatesJanuary 2017

  • Galápagos December 2016

“Overall this was a great vacation for our family. We loved the Galápagos. Edwardo, our guide for the week, was fantastic. He took care of everything and always made sure that we had what we needed. For me the highlight was snorkeling with a school of large hammerhead sharks just bellow.

We loved all of the hotels we stayed in on the islands. They all had comfortable beds, electricity, hot showers and even air conditioning. The food was fresh and hot. We loved the homemade soups at every lunch and dinner and the fresh fish served in all of the local restaurants. ”

  • "Make it happen and you absolutely will not be disappointed"

“The Galapagos Islands turned out to be everything you hear about and more! My style of travel has never been geared towards tours or trips (EQ Type: Authentic Experiencer), however I signed up for the Tortuga trip last minute to join my parents and couldn't have been more pleased! Being a land-based tour vs. boat tour we were able to support the local economies on the various islands we visited while experiencing the authentic and incredible wildlife and landscapes the Galapagos has to offer. We got to enjoy a variety of local restaurants rather than eating the same buffet meal similar with other tours and stay in a range of different accommodations along the way. Our tour guide Pablo however, really made the trip and I am not sure if it would be quite as amazing without him. The passion, knowledge and love he has for the Galapagos Islands glimmered through every day we were with him and his smile shared with each new experience was priceless. The only disappointment of the trip was that it would have been good to know extra activities such as diving, are non-refundable if a illness or anything else comes up last minute as they often do and it may have affected our choice to opt out earlier. Saying this, I would very strongly recommend the Tortuga trip to everyone. If you every have the chance to visit the Galapagos Islands, make it happen and you absolutely will not be disappointed. Each day we were left amazed and utterly shocked at how much we were able to see and do with each activity. I have traveled to some pretty spectacular places around the world but this trip is a once in a lifetime experience. - Myla xo ”

  • Outstanding Adventure with the Best Guide Ever!

“The Tortuga trip was phenomenal. From the moment I arrived, my every need was met and all with grace and professionalism. The trip was well planned, we saw and did so many things, from adventures like hiking and biking, snorkeling and kayaking, to learning all about the Galapagos in a way a book will never tell you. What brought everything off the pages of a book, and from the land in front of us was the knowledge and the passion of our guide Pablo. What a treasure he is! He could answer anything, and it was all shared with enthusiasm, passion, caring, love for this land. I felt so honored to have had him as our guide. Thank you! The food was outstanding, the accommodations perfect. I could not fault a single thing!”

“All went really well with the trip. Loved the Guide (Pepo). Completed nearly all of the itinerary, but not quite all. Good group of fellow travelers, though not all of them were expecting (or tolerant of) kids in the trip (8 and 14 yr old). • Enchanted Paradise

“This trip was worth every penny. From the moment you leave the airport on San Cristobal you are surrounded by the magic of the Galapagos. We saw every animal we hoped to and then some. There were plenty of opportunities to relax with a local beer and watch the sea lions play or iguanas scuttle across the beach or you could use spare time to fit in extra mountain biking or snorkeling. Our guide, Pepo, was absolutely wonderful. He is from San Cristobal and I really enjoyed his insider's perspective on the islands. Every day was a learning experience. The trip was expertly planned and organized. Never a dull moment!”

  • Everything I hoped for

“This was my bucket list trip and it did not disappoint! As a biology major, the main draw was the wildlife, the natural history, and scientific significance of the Galapagos but it was also so much more. Our guide, Pepo, led our small group on a journey of discovery while sharing his expertise and great sense of humor. Our fellow adventurers were so much fun and we bonded over great food, once in a lifetime experiences, and fun in the sun. I highly recommend Active Adventures and will most likely book another trip with them soon!”

  • Amazing galapagos

“Thanks to Active Adventures and especially Jessica and her team for an amazing time in the Galapagos. Really enjoyed the diving, snorkeling and other activities on or near the sea, even during the travel between islands there was plenty to see and learn about; the diversity, adaption to the environment, and specialisation of the wildlife, including the people!, that live(d) on Galapagos (and mainland Ecuador) was so interesting.
Fresh and largely locally sourced food was great! Liked the simplicity with less gizmos that often end up thrown away. Thought the people, especially Galapagos, were aware of the environment, recycling and less rubbish and wastage.
    Fascinating place! ”

  • Experience the Real Galapagos!

“The trip was very well organized and managed from booking until the end of the tour! The itinerary was perfectly crafted in a balance of active and relax pace, gave us the best wildlife and Island experience! The land base tour definitely the best way to explore and appreciate the beauty of Galapagos and a better chance to interact with locals too. Food, accommodations and transport were well taking care of. Credit must go for the exceptional local naturalist guide Pablo who was so passionate to share everything you wish to know about Galapagos from geography, history, wildlife and some interesting stories you only get to know from the local..his presentation was simply fascinating!
I would strongly recommend the Tortuga tour if you wish to have a different and memorable experience with Galapagos, better still get Pablo as your guide and you will understand everything!

  • Playful nature at its finest!

“My Galapagos journey was fabulous! I still carry with me the wonder of our snorkeling adventures, especially with the sea lions visiting, dancing and playing with us and the graceful sea turtles gently meandering through the water in their scout for lunch. Our friendly, enthusiastic and easy-going guide, Pepo, was outstanding--he was so impressive with his deep knowledge of the individual island habitats, the animals and their varying species and habits, history, and culture. I am so grateful to have been able to fulfill my long-held desire to visit the Galapagos through this awesome tour!”

  • Childhood dream to reality.

“I've imagined and dreamed of visiting the Galapagos Islands since I was about 8 years old. Maybe it was Dr Doolittle or Jacques Cousteau - who knows how such ideas get stuck in a child's head, but the Tortuga trip was a dream realised and it exceeded all my expectations. There were surprises and delights every day, not to mention the added bonus of having a guide/teacher/naturalist/conservationist/geologist/surfer Pablo, who bought alive the history of the islands and the mysteries and magnificence of evolution and the animal kingdom.”

“I travelled with my 11 year old son and although he's been on many adventures, this trip to Galapagos in April tops our list of favorites! This was in great part because of Pablo, who is the best naturalist/guide we've ever had. It felt like we were traveling with a friend. Pablo was amazing and made a lasting impression on my son who for the first time, cried when it was time to say goodbye.”

  • Galapagos Tortuga

“We had a fantastic time in Galapagos and enjoyed days packed with activities. This was our first trip using Active Adventures and we were impressed with well organised days, varied activites from bike riding, climbing volcano, kayaking, snorkelling and enjoying fantastic wild life in Galapagos.
Pepo -our guide is extremely knowledgable and most lovely person who made our days fun and interesting. We enjoyed the variety of different islands visited and loved the taste of local life we were introduced to, including family tree house in highlands of San Cristobal and local restaurants sharing the benches with sea lions.
Snorkelling with sea turtles, sharks and sea lions was unforgettable. The scenery was breathtaking with beautiful beaches, amazing rock creations of lava tunnels and tranquil bays and sunsets. Ocean kayaking was fun- watching penguins and blue boobies, pelicans waiting for fisherman's left overs....Each island brought its unique experience and history with it. We had opportunity to dive as well as snorkel and the trip organisers gave us plenty of opportunities to meet all our interest and needs. Our group of 10 was excellent size and felt more like a big family holiday. I would recommend Active Adventures to everyone as this was a fantastic activity holiday and a good value for money. The tour was organised with thoughtfulness by very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We felt safe and extremely well looked after. Thank you to every one and especially Pepo! Pepo, please give our regards to your dad who joined us for a bit of our trip. We will treasure the photo of him and Pepo in the giant tortoise shell!”

  • Animal Kingdom

“This really was a most enjoyable trip. Everybody who goes to the Galapagos expects to see lots of animals, and we were certainly not disappointed!
We liked the range of activity and especially we liked the guide, Pepo. He is absolutely brilliant, so caring, kind and friendly, and his knowledge in encyclopaedic! If you get him as a guide, you will be very pleased!”
Mike Hutt – Surrey, United KingdomApril 2016
  • Outstanding!

“Thoughtful and well prepared, friendly and helpful staff at every turn. The active adventure title is a fitting description and not just a marketing gimmick. Hiking, biking, snorkeling, kayaking, and awesome accommodations. The Active Adventures / Galakiwi teams are excellent at what they do. Pepo our guide is the best ambassador and genuine professional for the Galapagos Islands -- very, very knowledgeable about the eco-systems and plants and animal life, and such a thoughtful and friendly individual, we really appreciated all he did to make this such a memorable trip. You will find the people and culture of the region extremely open and welcoming. This was certainly the trip of a lifetime, and especially hassle free thanks to the diligence of our Active Adventure / Galakiwi team!”

  • Super Trip!

“Our guide had a "super plan" and it made for a super trip! Great weather, good mix of people, small group size and good activity level each day made for an enjoyable way to see the Galápagos Islands.”

  • Dream Come True

“I'd always heard the Galápagos was a very special place, and now I can confirm that it is indeed an incredible and unique place. I've traveled quite a bit, but never had so many jaw dropping sights and experiences. The fish, birds, and animals are truly amazing! Our guide, Pepo was one of the best guides I have ever had. I loved the high activity level of this trip, allowing us to see and do the maximum each day. ”
Kathryn Moe – Minnesota, United StatesMarch 2016
  • Amazing Trip

“This was an amazing trip! It was active, nature-oriented, and great for seeing wildlife. There was always something to do (e.g., biking, hiking, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, visiting breeding centers/interpretation centers, looking at wildlife). The accommodations were great (especially considering how it was advertised I thought it would be rougher but it wasn't), and the food was delicious (it was great for those who love seafood, but there were always great options for those that don't). Also, staying on the land allowed us to see and experience more than if we were on a cruise ship. For example, one night we walked around the pier at night after the people on the cruise ships had to be back at their boats, and we saw a sea lion and over 20 baby blacktip sharks having a feeding frenzy on fish. Additionally, our guide Pepo was wonderful! He is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and funny. Overall, this is one of my favorite tours I have ever been on. If you are on the fence about it, just go you won't regret it!”

  • Galapagos by land and sea

“With Pablo as our guide, and a great group for conversation and fun, the Galapagos Islands were unique and beautiful. It would be nice to have a few more days in which there was more than one option for adventure. And our hotel on Santa Cruz was a poor substitute for the one listed for the tour. But staying on land gives you a chance to connect with the locals, and wander a little on your own in ways that would not be likely on a cruising tour. ”
Bob Sornson – Michigan, United StatesMarch 2016
  • Fun, Flexible and Phenomenal

“Our trip to the Galapagos with Pablo was outstanding. From the moment we met in San Cristobal to our departure from Santa Cruz, our trip was educational, entertaining and engaging. Pablo was a phenomenal guide with deep knowledge of the islands. His guidance and direction was crucial in the success of the trip. He was able to accommodate all participants regardless of age, fitness or interests. I whole-heartedly recommend the Tortuga trip with Pablo.”

  • A Great Trip

“Active Adventures tries to get it all in for you. Biking, hiking, snorkeling and kayaking. Really liked that it was a land trip. Our guide Jessica, could not have been better! She was so knowledgeable, patient and overall organized. Glad we went with A.A. for a second trip... first one was in New Zealand.”
Maddy Entel – Massachusetts, United StatesMarch 2016
  • Eleven Days Off of the Grid

“From Mitand del Mundo (middle of the world) to the natural wonders of the Galápagos Islands, this trip is a must not miss for nature lovers everywhere. Our guide lives on Isabella and knew everyone we met on each of the islands. We saw animals not in evidence anywhere else on Earth: flocks of wild flamingoes, marine iguanas, Galápagos Sharks, and of course the ubiquitous giant tortoises. Every detail of the excursion was well planned and executed. There was time for individual pursuits and the accommodations were better than I had imagined. I will recommend Active Adventures/Galakiwi to anyone wanting a hands-on, Eco-friendly tour of "Darwin's Place".”
Jenni Lockwood – Florida, United StatesMarch 2016
  • Amazing trip with scenery, science, and cultural understanding

“Amazing trip; couldn't have been more perfect. We loved the sights and the amazing flora and fauna of the Galapagos of course, but what set this trip apart was our amazing guides, especially Pablo, and getting to stay on the islands. Pablo was a wealth of knowledge not only about the science, ecology, and behavior of the various endemic species we saw, but also about the impact of the human element, introduced species, and climate. His passion for the islands was incredible. He made this the trip of a lifetime for all of us, but especially our very inquisitive 11 year old son. The places we stayed were great, and it was a privilege to get to stay on the islands - there is much more to be seen this way. ”
    Lydia Andrews-Jones – California, United StatesMarch 2016
  • Awesome adventure!

“Enjoyable trip with good mix of activities on a realistic time schedule. Our guide (Jessica) was excellent. She was friendly, very knowledgeable, and offered a good variety of options many days. We saw all that was advertised and more. Jessica was excellent at making sure all 11 of us were having a great time while being able to coordinate and accommodate for ages 25-80. I highly recommend this trip.”
Barbara Loeb – Illinois, United StatesFebruary 2016
  • Spectacular Experience

“Despite being the youngest trip member by almost 25 years, I had an amazing time. From start to finish, the trip was well organized and executed. You can tell that the money we paid for the trip went to excellent use. The hotels were fabulous and the food was top notch.
Our guide, Pablo, was beyond passionate about the Galapagos and really made the trip. His knowledge and love for the islands is inspiring. (Every time he saw litter, he made it a point to pick it up and keep the islands clean.) I loved how there were extra guides for hikes and snorkeling excursions in case a trip member wanted to go back early. There was a perfect amount of down town in relation to the active adventures we took daily. This trip was a spectacular experience that I would recommend to any person of any age. ”
Amanda Solomon – New Jersey, United StatesFebruary 2016
  • Super Plan

“I truly believe that staying on the four islands (instead of a ship) and being able to eat at local restaurants, mingle with the Educadorians as well as partaking in other special land based activities made the trip even more memorable then I had imagined. Our Naturalist guide, Pepo who was born and raised on San Cristabol and has achieved level Three of his profession and was the very essence and spirit of a wonderful trip both from an educational aspect as well as a true adventure!!”
Gregg Kravitz – Hawaii, United StatesFebruary 2016
  • An extraordinary Experiential learning travel experience

“From our first day of biking from the highland in the rain to the beach and snorkeling with a few sea lions in a beautiful bay which began our amazingly active, awesome nine days with our fabulous naturalist guide Pepo. Pepo's insight of the flora, fauna, and the geology and history of the Galapagos Islands and interesting tours of the intriguing indigenous and endemic animals and their habitats was very special. He took special care and attention to our needs and wants throughout the trip. I am glad to say that it was one of the most experiential learning travel trips I have ever taken. ”

  • Galapagos Adventure by Land

“The Galapagos had been in my sights for a while, and this trip certainly did not disappoint. I loved the land-based itinerary Active Adventures offered, and am so glad we opted for this instead of a cruise. I loved the small, often beachfront lodgings and the opportunity to poke around the islands in the mornings and evenings outside planned activity times, and also the fact that it afforded me the opportunity to dive, since that was a highlight for me. The activities themselves were extraordinarily well organized. There was always something to do and look forward to but we never felt rushed or overwhelmed. Jessica, our Galapagueña guide, was lovely, energetic and extremely knowledgeable and informative - I couldn't have asked for a better person to show us the islands. Overall, a truly spectacular trip for anyone who wants to really experience the islands rather than just see them from a boat.”
Tessa Wood – New York, United StatesJanuary 2016
  • Iguanas everywhere

“I expected to see marine iguanas, but never thought I'd have to take care to not step on them...in town. Overall the trip provided a great sampling of the various biomes and unique animals of the Galapagos.”

  • The trip was amazing!

“It exceeded my expectations in virtually every way. I'm so glad my wife and I decided to arrive in Quito a couple days early to experience the beautiful city. The Galapagos Islands were equally beautiful and the activities were AWESOME! We saw more wildlife than we expected and learned a lot from our guide Pablo. The hotel accommodations were a little better than expected and the meals were GREAT! I would highly recommend this trip to others who enjoy the great outdoors in all its splendour!”

The beaches were beautiful and the accommodations were adequate to awesome! Everything was so well organized, AA thought of everything! We would highly recommend that others use this company and explore this paradise! We plan to use AA again! Thank you for the wonderful memories!”

  • Outstanding experience in Galapagos

“My Tortuga trip was absolutely amazing. I always hesitate to give 5 stars, but this trip came very close. I was very lucky to have got a small group of 10 and a fantastic guide, Jorge, who taught me so much about the islands. As well, the private room, excellent food and outstanding fauna and flora, took the experience beyond my expectations. You will NOT be disappointed!”

  • Finding The Real Galapagos

“This Galapagos trip was labelled an active adventure which quite frightened me since at 71 years old I am no longer as active as I once was. My fears were increased when I met my trip mates who all looked very fit. However the guide Pablo made it possible for me to do every event by making small and large accommodations. I had a wonderful time and I felt this trip revealed a lot more about the Galapagos than just Darwin and the animals. We met the people and experienced island areas that no one else I know has ever visited. This was a trip to remember forever.”
Anne Menzies – Ontario, CanadaDecember 2015

  • a truly fine life experience

“My trip was especially memorable because of the wealth of information shared by our guide, Pepo. He informed us about the geology, the flora, the birds, the sea life/creatures, the history of the Galapagos. This information enriched my appreciation of all that I saw and experienced.

The sea lions were a hoot...sleeping on, under, in between any and every surface available....benches, boats, piers, sidewalks, bushes, in addition to rocks and sandy beaches. Would have missed the presence of the "beach masters" if they had not been pointed out by our guide, lurking just below the surface of the water, close to shore. The giant turtles in the water had no fear of us...so amazing to share such close proximity with these creatures. The giant land tortoises were shy, but oh so numerous. Birds a plenty and beautiful fish viewed while snorkeling. The food and accomodations were excellent. The activities were doable for my level of fitness and age, 71.”
Ingrid Lynch – Washington, United StatesOctober 2015
  • Galápagos revealed

“This trip is way up on the list of favorite experiences for me. From the charming small and quirky hotels to the luxury of swimming with sea lion, sea turtles, schools of colorful fish, rays, and shark it was one delightful thing after another. Each day brought something surprising: could be a bike ride, could be a very special tree house, could be floating underneath boobies and penguins lazing on rocks. Just plain wonderful.”
Carole Petrich – Washington, United StatesOctober 2015
  • A lesson in preserving our natural world

“Excellent experience: the place, the people, and the wildlife. For us, a much greater experience than we imagined. Pepo shared with us his deep commitment to his homeland and his commitment to reciprocity with the environment. Very encouraging to us. We left the islands feeling that the younger generation is committed to a broad view that we can sustain and enhance the environment instead of depleting it.”

“We could not have been happier with this trip as it turned out to be everything we had hoped it would be and then some! From the incredible places we went, things we saw, and animals we encountered to our amazing Naturalist guide Jessica this trip delivered on its promises and then some. The itinerary turned out to be the perfect mix of active, restful and just plain fun with interesting lodging and incredible food at every turn. We would recommend Active Adventures and, more specifically, the Tortuga trip to anyone looking to take part in the kind of tour that you couldn't possibly put together and execute on your own.”

  • A great way to see the Galapagos!

“Active Adventures (and their local representatives at Galakiwi) were terrific. They go over and above to ensure that everyone really enjoys their vacation. Jessica is an awesome guide, very knowledgeable about not only the wildlife and plants you will see, but also about the local culture and history of the islands.

This is definitely the best way to see the islands. Although you're busy during the days, we often got the opportunity to explore a little in the evenings, getting a taste of the local culture that wouldn't be possible from a cruise ship.

  • Top-Notch Trip

“The Tortuga itinerary was so thoughtfully planned and seamlessly executed. Active Adventures gave us an all-access pass to the National Park and all the tools and toys to enjoy every moment. We consider ourselves very independent travelers and capable of just about anything, but there is no way we could have done even half of the activities or gained nearly as much knowledge without their expert guiding. This was such a fun and fulfilling trip--thank you!”

  • Nonstop adventure!

“All day, everyday you're doing something amazing! Jessica did an amazing job at showing us the real Galapagos. She took us to special places that not everybody that visits the islands gets to go. What an amazing week full of birds, sea lions, iguanas, fish, and so much more. The wildlife is breathtaking and beautiful. I never thought I'd get to experience Galapagos. But boy, did I! We hiked volcanos, swam with sharks, got up close and personal with Blue Footed Boobies, and enjoyed so much fresh seafood I thought I'd explode after every meal. Every island was spectacular but Floreana was my favorite. I liked how secluded we were and listening to the waves crash on the beach at night while I fell asleep was magical. I love the Galapagos! Can't wait to get back! ”

  • An excellent opportunity to see the Galapagos up close

“The two highlights of the trip; Our guide Jessica along with the other seven members of our group. Jessica is superb. We enjoyed the opportunity to stay on four of the islands and travel by boat in the morning hours. It gave us the chance to meet the locals, stay in local lodges and eat at local restaurants while still traveling to four islands. Enjoyed the diversity including kayaking, biking, snorkeling, hiking and boating. It was a bit challenging for a 72 year old but well worth the effort. The biggest challenge was adjusting to the heat. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife and vegetation in all its forms but you never know in advance how the group's dynamics and the guide will work out. They couldn't have been better. ”

  • A Trip Through Wonderland

“A wonderful trip through a Wonderland! Everything in Galapagos went like clockwork which was due to detail planning and meticulous management by the team in Galapagos. Jose, our guide, was excellent and he was a fountain of knowledge and information. It was a pleasure having him as our guide.

The Giant Tortoises were the main highlight of the trip. At the ranch in Santa Cruz we hiked around the tortoise country. There were tortoises of various sizes. There were even some tortoises in a marsh that was completely covered with red algae. From a distance it looked like artificial turf of a tennis court, except that there were tortoise shells sticking out from it! We saw giant tortoises lounging in the mud, eating in slow motion (for us anyway!), walking deliberately across the fields carrying their huge shell effortlessly and of course trying to hide. When disturbed they made a loud hissing sound and recessed their heads into their carapace while bringing their strong front feet with sharp claws in front of their faces in a defensive posture. We spent a long time basking in the splendor of these magnificent creatures. They were truly extraordinary and it was a highlight of our trip to spend time in their presence.

One of the caretakers at the tortoise breeding facility in Isabela Island showed us an eight day old tortoise which was barely bigger than the egg it just recently hatched from. It is humbling to realize that this tiny creature will one day become a giant of this land and will outlive us, our children and our children’s children. Live long and prosper, adorable little dude!

The other main highlight of the trip was the marine iguanas. They melded their prehistoric bodies into the crags and crevices of the volcanic rocks and left strange trailing marks on the restless sand. Then there were the brightly colored marine iguanas. They had red and green splotches over their entire bodies. The males fought with each other to gain the highest spot on the rocks. They moved slowly on land and swam elegantly in water. They were a surreal sight.

The other highlights of the trip were, sea lion rookery at La Loberia beach, dolphins and fin whales, kayaking in Isabela bay, snorkeling in the Tintoreras, fearless penguins, sunset on the black sand beach in Floreana, magnificent flamingoes, graceful eagle rays and of course the blue footed boobies at Darwin Bay.

My favorite moment was at Darwin Bay in San Cristobal Island where the wind was a balmy seventy and frigate birds circled the sky. The sun peeped through lazy clouds in the horizon while a yellow finch darted in front and vanished into the towering cacti. It was the time of the day when brown pelicans searched for their last bit of morsel before retiring for the day. Blue footed boobies preened on guano covered rocks as they too ready themselves for the passing of the sunlight. Perhaps the sea lions noticed the passing of the light. They are aptly described as lumbering on land but in the water they darted frantically. They must sense a final feeding before retiring for the night. The water where a few stragglers still snorkel lazily is bluish green and the surf hitting the cove is as bright as a fresh coat of vanilla ice cream. Looking over them all was the statue of Charles Darwin, his back to the cove. He was welcoming us all to his beloved Galapagos. The sun started to gently descend into the horizon and an eerie calmness descended upon the land. The frantic feeding of the yellow finned tuna had given way to tranquility, a silent waiting but not a permanent ending. The frigate birds had finally ceased their hovering. They were now perched on the cliffs and on a few precariously hanging trees. There was no one there as the sun finally set over the magnificent Galapagos. It was a moment of unimaginable peace. It was a moment worthwhile to have come so far for.

I carry in my heart the wonder and beauty of the Galapagos and the hospitality of the people. That will remain with me forever. Thanks for making that happen.”

  • Fantastic in all respects!

“Everything was top-notch . . . Our guide, Jose was exceptional. Hotels and food much better than I expected. The scenery and wildlife even exceeded my very high expectations. Fun activities with quality equipment and support staff. Don't miss this trip!”

  • All this and swimming with dolphins!

“So thrilled I made this trip; and Jessica as our guide couldn't have done more to explain the flora and fauna and make sure everything ran smoothly. Getting to jump off the boat and swim with dolphins in the middle of a transfer between islands was a top highlight. ”
    Barbara Woodward – , United KingdomJanuary 2015
  • Loved the dedication of Galapagos community toward preservation

“I had a wonderful experience with the unique creatures of the Islands. However, what really took my breath away was the obvious dedication of the residents of the Islands toward maintaining a healthy environment for themselves and the nonhuman residents.”
Peggy Graybill – California, United StatesDecember 2014
  • Unforgettable!!!!

“Exceeded all expectations. Jessica our guide was so knowledgeable and answered all questions about fauna, flora, history and culture. She was a great leader and companion. The whole group enjoyed her company. The itinerary was well balanced, organized, exciting and fun!!!! ”

  • Over the top

“our recent trip to the Galapagos was a trip of a lifetime! We had been thinking about visiting these remote islands for 20 yrs., but never had the time or found a land based itinerary to actually sign up. But finally the stars aligned and we found a tour company that did NOT stay on a boat. We wanted to be on land on various islands to experience the local flavor and meet some local people as well. This itinerary was what we had looked for all those years. The 4 islands were so different in flora, fauna and geography, we loved each island and hope to return again in the near future. Jessica was a perfect guide to talk about the history, environmental challenges and the hope to protect these islands for future generations. She always had an answer to various questions from our group and made this trip so wonderful. Highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to delve a little deeper into these islands.”
Erika Reen – Connecticut, United StatesDecember 2014

  • Special Trip - Special Place

“The people on the Galapagos islands we visited - (San Cristobal, Floreana, Isabela and Santa Cruz) -- were very friendly (including the wildlife). I felt like I visited very special and unique islands)... sea lions on park benches, marine lizards leading us down a trail, penguins posing on rocks, and sea turtles standing on their heads -- 10 feet underwater. Don't expect the Ritz - that is not what this trip is about. Rather, it is for those who wish to visit a place of pristine natural beauty - (fauna and flora). I'd go again in a heartbeat!!”
Chris Maloney – Florida, United StatesOctober 2014
  • Amazing

“I loved the whole trip and our guide Pepo was truly super! He was so informative and having grown up in the area, he provided us with a more personal view of the surrounding wildlife and island areas. ”
Pam Daniel – Florida, United StatesOctober 2014
  • This Trip Should be Mandatory for Every Bucket List

“I have been on around twenty guided adventure trips and this was my third great adventure with Active. Of all of my trips, covering six continents, this was the best so far. The natural beauty combined with the features unique to the Galapagos, our fantastic guide Pepo, and a great group made this a fantastic trip. I really would not change a thing about the trip. The itinerary, activities, equipment provided, transportation between the islands, food and lodging were first rate. I would urge any adventure traveler who has not been to the Galapagos to book the Tortuga trip this afternoon. ”
William Garvin – Florida, United StatesOctober 2014
  • laughter and comraderie

“Pepo's leadership and sharing his love of his Galapagos set the tone for me of loving my experiences and connecting with the group was the tops for me. We moved thru all the activities with such ease. Pepo was a unique and wonderful leader/guide.”

  • Building Memories for a Lifetime

“It is hard to imagine that the trip could have been better. The Galapagos is an incredible place and this was a great way to see it. The group bonded well together and we had one adventure after another. Pepo is really a special guide. He is knowledgeable and nice and funny. When Pepo spoke, I listened. And this is coming from a retired science teacher so I already knew quite a bit and had a critical ear. Pepo really made a good trip great. I am impressed with Active Adventures and hope to make another trip. If you can come up with another Pepo, I'll be really impressed”
Gregory Gorbach – California, United StatesOctober 2014
  • Galapagos -FANTASTIC!

“I saw everything I had heard about and more! Marine iguanas, volcanoes, hammerhead sharks, white tipped reef sharks, Mola Mola fish, sea lions, sea horses, giant tortoises, turtles, penguins and flamingos (who'd think you could see them on the same trip!) and too many fish to mention. Beautiful scenery every day. Black sand beaches, white sand beaches, volcano hike was like being on another planet. ”
Karen Bleakley – Maryland, United StatesOctober 2014
  • Magnificent Galapagos!

“Land based Galapagos is the way to go! I'm so grateful we got to really experience the islands by being immersed in the culture as opposed to being on a live aboard. Pepo is an awesome guide! I'm not sure there is a better naturalist guide on the islands - he's a great leader, teacher, and photographer! The food and accommodations were much more than I had anticipated. Buy yourself a good camera for this trip - you will take many photos - it's a trip of a lifetime!”
Amy Schliem – South Carolina, United StatesSeptember 2014
  • The Wonders of our Natural World

“How does one describe the Galapagos? Animals of every kind, lots of them; snorkeling like I've never experienced; a wonderful guide who not only loves his work and culture but who knows natural history! Every second of everyday was filled with WOW activities, experiences, sites. Plus there was enough time for personal exploration. Everywhere we went we were taken care of by competent, friendly people. It was a dream vacation. ”
Tim Touzel – South Carolina, United StatesSeptember 2014
  • Snorkeling the Galapagos

“An excellent trip. We were able to snorkel the very first day, enjoying the sea lions off the beach. Food and accommodations were awesome. Our guide was knowledgeable about the islands' history and nature. ”

  • Galapagos, Islands of Wonder!

“One of the best things about this trip was the variety of activities we participated in. Everything from hiking to mountain biking, kayaking and snorkeling. Also, I absolutely loved that we stayed on land overnight. This allowed us to really engage in interaction with the people and culture of the Galapagos Islands and explore on our own. Each day brought a new surprise in what wildlife we would see. A trip of a lifetime for sure!”
Pat Maccariella-Hafey – South Carolina, United StatesAugust 2014
  • PABLO made the Galapagos a truly special experience

“The Galapagos with any tour company would be great. With Pablo and Active Adventures, this trip moved into first place in our family trip ranking. The overall schedule and organization were supreme, as there was little waiting around for the next activity to start. Each activity was amazing, only to be followed by an even better experience. Pablo was a knowledgable and considerate tour guide who made everything, from the Galapagos geology to the frigate bird feeding habits, seem interesting to our entire family.”
Larry Kanter – New Jersey, United StatesAugust 2014
  • Reality tops imagination every time

“I knew this trip would be amazing, but the real thing was so much better than I could have imagined. The group was great, the activities were perfect, the guide made sure we took advantage of every opportunity for greatness that we came across. Truly amazing.”

  • Loved the Galápagos Islands!

“When I returned from the Galapagos Islands, family and friends would ask me to tell them what the highlight of my trip was. My answer began with watching my child snorkel with the sea lions... the penguins ... the sea turtles ... And then I continued with seeing the blue footed boobies ... the tortoises ... the hammerhead sharks ... hiking to the volcanoes ... and the list goes on and on. We had the most amazing guide, Pepo, who shared with all 9 of us, his expertise and knowledge of the Islands. This was an adventure, a vacation, and an education all in one. ”

  • This truly is the trip of a lifetime!

“Our group of 16 did the Tortuga trip with Pablo and Pepo in April and what a fabulous time we had! The Galapagos are stunning and I am so glad that we got to stay on the islands rather than on a cruise ship. Staying on the islands gave me a more intimate feeling of the people, the land, the birds, the marine iguanas and of course all the sea lions! Pablo and Pepo were fantastic guides and I was always amazed at their knowledge as well as their amazing ability to get all of us where we needed to be in the most efficient way possible. It seemed like we could ask Pablo and Pepo anything about the Galapagos and they knew the answer. This made the trip for me. I'm a nature lover but a birder first and I was so happy that I could ask either one of them the names of the birds I was seeing and they could tell me. I also liked that Pablo and Pepo both shared what it was like to live in the Galapagos with us. Just an all round amazing trip. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone especially if Pablo and Pepo are your guides!”

  • Incredible!

“This trip was truly incredible - from the wildlife encounters that have to be seen to be believed, to the beautiful islands, to the funny nights out and the delicious coffee. It was well organised, tonnes of fun and our guide Zambo was amazing - he shared a huge depth of knowledge and did it all with a smile. Couldn't ask for more.”

  • Over the top

“This was a truly amazing trip. Expensive but worth every penny. I believe it would be impossible for anyone to utilize their trip time anywhere near as well as Pablo and Pepo did. One morning we had breakfast, went by bus to beach, kayaked for an hour, watertaxi to iguana island and walked around, watertaxi back out in bay to snorkel, watertaxi back to dock, bus to lunch. And if that's too fast paced for you, no problem, you can sit out on some of it. Both guides kept a finger on the pulse of the group and varied the itinerary accordingly. For example, stopped the bus on the way home one day and we all got out and picked guava's which were then dropped off at the breakfast restaurant for guava juice the next day. Loved all the wildlife and natural surroundings and the history the guides provided. Staying on the islands in small hotels gave a wonderful feel for life there. Just an amazing trip.”

  • Best time of my life

“This trip absolutely blew my mind. The Galapagos Islands are simply like no other place on earth. We were able to see such a diverse array of wildlife and so many animals up close and personal. Pepo, our guide was so passionate and knowledgeable. My personal favourite was the snorkelling, what an indescribable experience to be surrounded by fish, sea turtles, sharks and sea lions all at once. I cannot wait to return!!”

  • Fun and More Fun in Ecuador

“I had a fantastic time. The guide (Jessica) was a charming eloquent individual. My companions were interesting and cool people. The wild life was a gas. My only problem was that equator sun. I'm a red head and didn't put enough sun screen on my face and looked like I was attacked by a jaguar at the end. ”
Tom Williams – Illinois, United StatesMarch 2014
  • “We had a fabulous time. Our guide, Jessica, was amazing. She was extremely versed in all aspects of the trip. A walking encyclopedia!”

“This trip exceeded our expectations. I am so happy that we went on this trip via land vs. sea. “I was so very happy to have chosen Active Adventures land-based Galapagos trip. Not only did we experience all the incredible wildlife and fantastic natural history, but we also got a close-up sense of island living by staying each night in small towns. The wide variety of activities kept us going all day long. I am not sure how the trip could have been any better.”

  • Tortoises in Tortuga

“If you have an interest in endangered species and the biology behind Darwin's theories, the Galapagos is a fascinating place to explore. This trip gives you a great perspective from land and sea of this important place.”

  • Tortuga Trip comments

“Good trip and good guide (Pepo). We had only 4 people (including us) on the trip so it was very personal and excellent interactions with Pepo. He did a great job getting a substitute guide for our time on Santa Cruz (he had badly hurt his ankle the day before on Isabela). The trip was a bit less active than we had expected....more free 'explore on your own' time we used for some additional hiking....but we felt perhaps a guide on these would have been helpful.”
Bruce Kirchner – North Carolina, United StatesNovember 2013
  • Land based trip is the best

“So glad we chose Active and a land based trip to the Galapagos. I think we got to see more and experience the islands more than you could from a boat. ”
Marty Kirchner – North Carolina, United StatesNovember 2013
  • Pablo Rocks!!

“Wow, trip of a lifetime. I would move to Isabella and live there for awhile. Pablo absolutely made this trip. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his islands and all that is on them (including the people on his island). We saw turtles and penguins and sea lions and flamingos and iguanas everywhere, everyday. Swimming with the turtles and penguins and sea lions is amazing (if somewhat shocking at first!). Beautiful to see and be a part of. ”

  • JUST GO!

“It was tremendous! I feel so lucky and privileged to have visited this fabulous place. Pablo our guide was so passionate about the history ecology and preservation of this beautiful part of the world. We saw every animal there was to see and super close up! Snorkeling with sea lions, turtles and penguins was definitely a highlight! So fun. ”
Reilly Mahoney – Massachusetts, United StatesNovember 2013
  • Wonderful experience

“The trip was wonderful. Pablo is an excellent guide and his passion for his work and his home certainly shines through. I truly believe that having him as our guide made our Galapagos experience that much more special. We were fortunate enough to have a captain and a skipper that were very skilled - we even were so lucky to spot a humpback whale and dolphins when traveling in between islands. So happy to have gone on this trip to such an extraordinary place!”
Samantha Favis – New York, United StatesSeptember 2013
  • Pregnant and Happy!

“This trip was wonderful. I am so glad I was able to take this trip with my Mom. We got to spend some quality time together in a wonderful place observing wildlife that we could not find anywhere else in the world. I was a little concerned before getting to Ecuador because I was five months pregnant and wasn't sure I would be able to participate in all the activities. But our guide Pablo was amazing and, while I generally stayed in the back of the pack, his enthusiasm for the Galapagos and nature in general kept me motivated. I didn't want to miss anything he had to say or show us. Outstanding!”

  • Absolutely magical.

“The Galapagos are everything you'd hope them to be - absolutely magical. I was stunned by the variety of wildflife I saw and was especially thrilled to get up close and personal to both sea lions and turtles whilst snorkelling. And seeing giant tortoises in the wild was a privilege.”
