Galapagos Diving

Dive with turtles, manta ray, sharks and marine iguanas

The Galapagos Islands is an internationally renowned diving destination home to a staggering array of marine life, nearly 20 percent of which is found nowhere else on earth. On our Galapagos Adventures there's the option to dive, for those who are experienced with drift diving, and there's snorkelling available for everyone. The water with its deep and mesmerising blue colour, unique to the Galapagos, will leave a stamp on your memory!

At certain spots that we visit, such as Kicker Rock, it's common to see hammerhead sharks and Galapagos reef sharks – but don't worry, they just cruise on past and they're not aggressive at all. Just floating through the passage between the two sheer rock islands is an experience you'll never forget. If you dive at this spot you'll descend about 60 feet between the two rocks. The water at the bottom is cool and clear and you can expect to see a variety of wrasses, starfish, surgeonfish and angelfish. Diving Galapagos Islands
Drift dives are common in the Galapagos Islands due to the ocean currents that intersect in this part of the Pacific Ocean (the cooler Humbolt Current brings rich nutrients from the south, which is why the marine life in this part of the Pacific is so proliferating). These currents characterise the diving here and it's common to encounter descending currents, with safety stops in blue water and no reference points. This is why we ask that you've completed at least ten open water dives if you're keen to dive on our trips.

Some of the other species you're likely to encounter include seals, turtles, marine iguanas and manta ray and if you're lucky you may see the odd whale or pod of dolphins as we journey between the diving and snorkelling spots.

    Tortuga

The 'Tortuga' is a fantastic way to discover several of the Galapagos Islands, especially for landlubbers. In a relaxed and active manner, you’ll snorkel, dive, hike and cycle, and cruise between the multitude of stunning islands in our comfortable dive boat, the ‘Pacific’ while staying on dry land each night. Starting with a short flight to San Cristobal Island, highlights of this incredible trip include snorkelling with turtles, rays and tame reef sharks, kayaking in a beautiful calm bay and hiking up an island volcano with one of the largest active calderas in the world. You’ll get up close to some of the most intriguing and docile wildlife on the planet, with visits to tortoise breeding grounds and iguana colonies, and even sharing the beach with inquisitive sea lions. We explore amazing lava tunnels, cycle through local townships and learn the mysterious history of Floreana Island.

Simply said: Excellent

We’ve booked our trip with Active Adventures from NZ but ended up with Galakiwi Adventures as the implementing party. A bit confusing at the beginning but it turned out quite well.
Our trip through the Galapagos Islands started in San Cristobal, followed by Floreana, Isabela and ended in Santa Cruz.
We booked an all-inclusive trip and it turned out to be a very good decision. In fact we realized only after a few days how convenient is was to have everything organized for you and how much time you can actually safe. Starting with swimming gear that is provided as part of the package. Transportation to the ferry, getting on & off, having the transportation ready when you arrive, all those organizational aspects are taken care off which makes travelling from island to island very easy and smooth. Then hotels are ready, check in & out done super fast, luggage’s pick up etc. all organized. Lunch and/or dinners arranged in advance to maximize the vacation time and reduce wasted time to a bare minimum. What else to say besides that the organization was simply said excellent!!!
Then we had Zambo our tour guide, a fantastic & very knowledgeable person.
Not only questions from adults were not a problem for him, our kids and the other families kids who were also part of the group constantly came up with all sorts of questions and somehow, Zambo always had an answer.
All of this made it a great vacation; we enjoyed it a lot
