Why Active South America - Ecuador & The Galapagos Islands

What makes our adventures so special?

An Active South America trip is no ordinary adventure vacation. We believe Ecuador's stunning scenery and wildlife needs to be experienced in the raw, not just seen through a bus or boat window.
Why Active South America - Galapagos Islands

We create the opportunity to explore Ecuador's culture, incredible scenery, wildlife and outdoor activities. We take people from all walks of life, who may or may not have a great deal of experience in adventure travel. We design trips that take you to extraordinary locations in the most breathtaking parts of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. To get there, we'll hike, bike, paddle, float and fly. You don't need to be extremely fit or active to come on one of our trips, but you need to be keen to get outside and experience Ecuador's incredible scenery in an active manner!

Our small size and local contacts mean we have the flexibility to work with you to ensure your trip is the best fit possible and we can customise any trip to suit you. We offer a variety of small group adventures in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands and we can put together any trip to accommodate any particular interest. One of the best things about travelling with us is that you have the opportunity to explore plenty of options everywhere we go.

We do some activities as a group, but there are always opportunities to get out and explore on your own. An Active South America trip is not a hiking tour, but we'll do some awesome hikes. It's not a cycling tour, but you can do some incredible rides. There are some great opportunities to go kayaking, snorkelling or diving in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, but you won't miss out if water sports aren't your thing. We try to minimise time on the road as much as possible and focus on enjoying our time in the great outdoors.

We like to visit some exciting locations by bike, kayak or on foot but we also enjoy our creature comforts. Our days end with hot showers, clean rooms and nice meals. We even arrange rest days, where you can read a book all day or shop till you drop. Most important of all - our aim is to exceed your expectations and we will do all we can to make this vacation the best one you've ever had. We've worked hard to put together the best trips in the places we go to in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

    Fantastic Adventure!

This trip was wonderful on so many levels. It was a perfect experience for our family of three college "kids", my husband and me. We traveled with two other families- a total of eight kids and six adults, a good group size. There was lots to see and do and we appreciated the opportunity to be active! Seeing the wildlife and learning about the Galapagos Islands was fantastic!! Zambo, our naturalist was terrific and related well to children and the adults. One of the unexpected pleasures my husband and I experienced was hearing our children utilize their seven years of middle and high school Spanish as they communicated with locals. Also, needless to say, they were pleased that the drinking age on the Islands is 18. We all enjoyed having a beer at the end of each wonderful day. The December weather was lovely. Comfortably warm and the water was beautiful!! We took full advantage of any extra snorkeling and swimming opportunities.

Our family had an extra day in Quito. We took the opportunity to hire a guide to take us around the city. What a great opportunity it was to learn about so many aspects of Ecuador's capital city. The Equator Museum was great and we enjoyed walking around the Plaza and seeing a couple of churches. Walking to the edge of the Pululhua crater was awesome! Lenin was a terrific guide!

See the best of Patagonia and eat like a king!

Great itinerary to see Chilean and Argentine Patagonia! While many people come to hike Torres del Paine, which is awesome, I thought Mount Fit Roy and Cerro Torre were even more spectacular in Argentina! Wished we could have hiked to more places in Argentina. Also loved the food and the ability to choose your own meals! I ate like a king!

    Spectacular Time!

We had a spectacular time in Patagonia! The venue was beautiful, challenging and exciting; Active did a great organizational job as well as Arturo our lead guide. Arturo is a multidimensional person that took great care of us at all times. Our group was very diverse, interesting spanning all age groups which got along great. Bottom line is that we had a fantastic time at a fantastic place with fantastic people. It was a very challenging trip that we are proud to have done.

Latitude 53 degrees and Loving It,

What a privilege it was to travel to Patagonia with three generations of our family. It is such a beautiful part of the world but also, so removed from the anxieties and pressures of the modern, social media/plugged-in world, and the Trump nastiness. The trekking was especially beautiful with the wild flowers in bloom and sunshine on our shoulders.

Active Adventures organized us perfectly in the sense that our transportation, refugios, and food were efficiently and tastefully selected. Arturo was so, so nice to our grandkids. Chem was delightful and so kind. What brilliant new friends we made and how kind and inclusive they were with the teenagers we had in tow.

We loved the ACTIVE in Adventures. We earned our good meals and good beds by stretching our limits over our two week trek. My husband and I were by far the oldest pair on the trail, but we loved it and who knows, maybe we will be back for our 60th anniversary.

    Amazing Trip

The Peru Jaguar trip we took in May, was the most exciting and adventurous trip we have ever made in our lives! At 70, I was skeptical as to whether I could complete the Inca Trail or not. With Johan's help and support, I not only accomplished my goal, but was extremely satisfied with our total active adventure trip. It seemed as if every time I turned my head, there was another exhilarating scene to photograph. The rest of the trip included the amazon rainforest, and spending the night with a local family on Lake Titicaca which was great. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wishing to explore the world's unknown places that only a few select get to experience. Our guide Erick Farfan was an exceptional young man who went out of his way not just for us, but the entire group. I've never had someone so attentive to every detail to make all of us happy. His choice of restaurants allowed all of us to experience the local foods and were all very tasty. Kudos to Erick, Johan and the rest of the crew for making my experience once in a lifetime which I will never stop talking about.
