About South America
South America has long been known as a place for adventurers, the kind of folk that live to be off the beaten track and welcome a new world of discovery. If you venture here you'll be met with a wild jungle, towering glaciers, extremely diverse wildlife, lively markets and culture in abundance - that's if you can part yourself from all of the fantastic food on offer.
The geography of western South America is dominated by the Andes mountains but the east varies greatly with highland and vast lowland regions. For the most part the continent lies in the tropics but due to high altitude levels in multiple parts of the continent, you may also have to prepare for chilly temperatures and freezing cold nights. Spanish and Portuguese are the widely spoken languages and the societies reflect many western traditions due to the history of heavy colonialism. The population is over a whopping 420 million people but much of this is concentrated in the urban areas with places such as Patagonia remaining sparsely populated.
Here at Active Adventures we understand the need for variety, and in such a huge place it would be impossible to cover all of the ground in one trip - so we've created a bunch which all appeal to different interests. Our trips travel through Peru, Patagonia, Bolivia, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands - we believe you should be able to enjoy the destination that appeals to your most, without having to rush to the next spot.
