Gustavo Martinez

South America Trip Leader

gustavo martinez

Gustavo was born in Lima, the capital of Peru. But somehow he's known ever since he was a kid that his soul belongs in the countryside. Gus says: "My grandfather was a very enthusiastic hiker of the highest peaks around the Central Andes until his last days, that's why I think my passion for hiking, trekking and the outdoors is in my genes." Gus lived in Sydney, Australia for two years, where he travelled around and met people from all over the world. "I literally lived in a house with guys from five continents. There I learned how rich and unique the human cultures are, but in the end we are all beings trying to discover life! Thanks 'Straya!' " Tavo, as he is also known, found out that meeting different people while hiking and trekking matched the role of being a guide - so here he is!

Testimonials

“Wonderful! Fantastic! Superb! Excellent! They're are no superlatives that don't describe Gustavo. I love him. He was ALWAYS working to make sure everything went well for us. He helped me with my Spanish. He is patient, charming, considerate, funny, sweet, and incredible kind. When my sinus problem kicked up, he spent an unbelievable amount of time trying to help me find Pseudoephedrine. I gave up long before he did, and started to feel guilty because he was far more worried about me than I was!”
- Roni Chapman (Sun City West, Arizona, United States), Jaguar June 2018

“Gustavo was awesome!! He was kind, considerate, always aware of everyone and ensured that no one was left out of the mix. Gustavo was fun to be though he also maintained control with an easy going manner. If he didn't know the answer he would always do a followup. I believe Gustavo is a real asset and ambassador to A.A. ”
- Shelly Lenaghan (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada), Jaguar September 2018

“Gustavo was great! Always smiling and extremely helpful to all participants! He’s a keeper!!”
- Leland Clement (San Diego, California, United States), Jaguar October 2018

    Absolutely AMAZING!

The Condor trip was definitely a trip of a lifetime! My husband and I loved every aspect of this amazing experience. We got to see scenery that was straight out of a magazine. The guides Cynthia and Gem were outstanding! I love them both! Our group of 14 was beyond my expectations. They were some of the best people I have ever met and feel enriched by this experience. Thank you Active Adventures!

Superb Ecuador - don't miss this tropical paradise

Ecuador is a gem, and should not be missed. The Active Adventures Tapir trip ensures that you experience many of the highlights of this gorgeous country. From the outset you will experience new adventures like cycling down Mt Cotopaxi from 4,500m, walking around beautiful countryside and heading upriver to an EcoLodge. This beautiful, multi-day activities are thoroughly enjoyable, and your guide Mauro Chavez is exceptional, highly professional, capable and engaging, definately one of the best guides I've had the pleasure to meet.

    Tapir trip Review

The Tapir trip to Ecuador certainly lived up to its "active adventure" name with Hiking, Horseback riding, Cycling and climbing through multiple waterfalls. The variety and the excellence of your guide Mauro made this an unforgettable trip and I highly recommend both Active Adventures and your Tapir trip.

    Fantabulous

A simply amazing trip-- pristine scenery, magical and majestic mountains, and all coordinated seamlessly by a fantastic trip leader and guides. Our family of seven-- spanning the ages of 78 to 12-- was perfectly supported, educated, and delighted by Arturo our trip leader and the local guides. They are all kind, fun, and experienced. Cem was true to his name, a gem, ever so patient with those of us with sore joints, and always with a sparkle or story to share.

    Simply Awesome

Incredible doesn't cover it. This trip gave a truly comprehensive Patagonia experience. Congratulations must go to whoever designed the sequence/structure. Each day presented us with a never-to-be-topped experience, promptly upped a notch the next..for the FULL trip duration!! No faults with accommodation, meals, transportation etc. Jay was absolutely awesome (I'll be running out of superlatives soon). Personable, great leader, communicator and guide. No problem ever became a problem. He and his brother Gem made this a real ILE (incredible life experience). Still don't know how he managed to arrange for the variety of weather and wildlife. For anyone thinking about doing this trip - don't think, DO. And I would recommend Active adventures!
