Solo Travellers

People often ask us, 'are our trips suitable for solo travellers?' Well, joining our small group adventure trips is a fantastic option if you're travelling by yourself! Every trip that heads out typically has a mix of like-minded couples, friends, siblings and solo travellers on board. In fact, around half of the people that travel with us are travelling on their own. From the moment you meet as a group on day one, there's a relaxed, fun and friendly vibe. Everyone who travels with us joins our adventure vacations to see a new part of the world, challenge themselves and meet new people. By the end of the trip, you'll feel like you're travelling with old friends, laughing and joking, telling stories and swapping anecdotes from your adventure together!

Sure, you'll still get those quiet moments to reflect by yourself as you sit and admire breath-taking views. You'll get to go at your own pace as you hike, bike and kayak each day and you'll have some spare time to explore some of the unique destinations that we visit. But what you'll also gain, when you join one of our small group adventures, is a group of life-long friends (including our legendary guides) who'll shape your memories and enhance your experience!

If you're travelling by yourself, let us know when you get in touch, and we'll be able to point you towards the best trip for you. Our guides have a special talent for making all sorts of group dynamics work wonderfully! If you happen to have a group of single friends and you'd like to travel as a 'singles group', we can organise that as well.

First Solo Trip - So Worth It!

“This was my first international trip where I traveled alone and it was so worth it! Every last detail is planned for you so it couldn't be any easier. The packing list was right on ( I used everything they suggested bringing) and rented a couple items to save enough packing space to allow me to bring only a carry on. I love active trips but get nervous trying to plan out all of the logistics.(where to stay, best things to see, transportation, etc) It was wonderful to find a way to travel without all the additional headaches. Would definitely travel with this company again!”

Remember that we offer trips in EuropeNepal, Peru, Patagonia, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands as well, and these are all equally well set up for solo travellers! Here's a shot of an Active group hiking on the Tour du Mont Blanc circuit.

    Outstanding Trip!!

This trip was especially great because of our guides, Ben and Emma. I cannot say enough good things about those two. They were extremely patient, energetic, and very sincere.
The trip has a wide variety of activities that allowed us to see and experience most of the South Island, keeping us away from the more congested tourist hangouts. I really felt like we saw the true South Island and not just the tourist trap attractions.
The only reason I have not given it a 5 star rating is because my wife and I are very active and do very challenging trips that most people would never want to take on. It was not a trip of a lifetime for me only because of that. Take "trip of a lifetime" away from the 5 stars and just have excellent and I would mark that. Excellent trip!!!!

Joy Project; New Zealand's North Island

The Tongariro Crossing was the highlight of my visit of the Northern Island. I felt as though we were trekking on another planet.

Andrew and Claire shared their extensive knowledge of New Zealand’s culture, land, flora and fauna while offering great music on Dick, the bus and fabulous meals!

I was asked about traveling to New Zealand alone. I explained I was not alone but traveling with twelve friends I had not met yet. This turned out to be factual.

    Best Trip Ever

You go hiking, exert yourself, see spectacular views, and you think "this is the best day, it can't get better than this." Then you go kayaking, see wildlife, lush rain forest and red tinted water, all with the backdrop of snow capped mountains, and you think "no, this is the best day, it can't get better this. Then you go biking along a teal colored river and through a birch forest with snow capped mountains ringing a suddenly peaceful lake and you think, "okay, THIS is the best day." And then you drive to Milford Sound, gawk in awe at waterfalls tumbling down towering cliffs along the road and you get to the Sound and you kayak with dolphins, and you come to the realization, "this is my New Zealand trip, every day better than the last," so that on your last day when you are lying beneath the stars, staring at the Milky Way and the Southern Cross, you know you've experienced something beyond special.

    Wonderful Choice!

A trip to New Zealand was on my "bucket list" and my husband chose this trip for the south island. I think this is a wonderful way to see the outstanding scenery of the south island. We will be back!

This trip was unsurpassed by any other I've ever been a part of! Ben and Emma seemed like family to us with their wonderful cooking, extreme knowledge of the island and extraordinary skill as guides made every step of every hike better than the last!
I have not stopped singing the praises of Active Adventures to my like minded friends since returning!
You really 'knocked this one out of the park'!
