Tess Opie

New Zealand Guide

Tess is a South Island girl, raised on a farm near a small rural town called Dunsandel, near Christchurch. She studied Physical Education at Otago University and then went onto a career as a personal trainer, before finding her true calling as an outdoor adventure guide (we're pleased she did)!

Given her background, it's not surprising that Tess is into swimming, tennis, netball, running, water skiing and snow skiing. And of course, travel. If she had to pin point one, her greatest outdoor adventure to date would be Canadian Canoeing down the Clutha River - from source to sea. What an awesome experience!

Favourite quote? "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey"

  • “Tess was also wonderful! It was amazing to see her whip up awesome meals even after a full day of driving/hiking or whatever. Somehow she managed to shop and get all this done while also participating with us in the activities.”
Erin Byrne (Reading, Pennsylvania, United States), October 2016
  • “Tess was great fun, and like Dan, she went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy. She's a great cook - loved the desserts! She heard me say I wasn't a fan of mushrooms and even though I didn't make a special request, she always made sure I didn't have mushrooms if they were part of the dish. Small thing, but very appreciated. She was engaging, worked hard and I really enjoyed meeting her on this trip.”
Carol Olsen (Chicago, Illinois, United States), March 2016
  • “AWESOME, lovely energy, great sense of humor, warmth and sweetness. The combination of Tess and Dan worked extremely well together.”
Ronnie Smith (Castro Valley, California, United States), March 2016
  • “Like Claire, Tess was good natured, obviously loved the outdoors, kept the food interesting, varied and delicious. She also seemed delighted in my health recovery. I felt cherished by the two.”
Jo Powers (Seattle, Washington, United States), February 2016
