Katie Anderson

New Zealand Guide

Katie was born in Kaitaia but spent most of her life living in Queenstown and Christchurch, so considers herself to be a southerner. Aside from a charming Kiwi accent, she also knows a touch of French - not specifically helpful down here in New Zealand, but great if we launch 'Active Adventures France' one day! Katie is obsessed with Roger Federer, and enjoys three of New Zealand's popular ball sports - netball, basketball and tennis. She also (luckily) loves tramping.

We asked Katie what her greatest outdoor achievement has been and she described her experience completing the Oxfam Trailwalker in 2013, finishing "quite deliriously exhausted" with a sneaking suspicion she'd managed to sleep walk the last 5km! She was stoked to finish with her entire team together more or less in one piece.

Favourite quote: "To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield." Possibly from a poem by Ulysses, these are the words on the cross in Antarctica that mark where Captain Scott died on his return journey from the South Pole.

  • “She was the best, very passionate about what she does and ALWAYS had a great attitude.”
Lena Goldin (New York, New York, United States) December, 2014
  • “Katie did a delightful job of keeping the rest enteratin while we enjoyed our journey. She even got involved in a snowball fight. We have the video. Katie has an amazing Kiwi accent and always ready to assisst anyone. Especially with their heavy suitcases. She always has suggestions and games to play while we wait for dinner. When photo opts were taken Katie always volunteered to take pictures of the inidividuals so less selfies were taken. Katie has a love for the outdoors and it shows.”
Coleen Walkey (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada), October, 2014
  • “Top marks for Katie. She's a gem and seems to enjoy the work. She's obviously proud of NZ. And she even forgave me for accidentally splashing her more than I intended... after she got even of course. It's all good.”
Doug Walkey (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada), October 2014
