Galapagos Islands Travel Packages
Step into Darwin's Laboratory and explore the Galapagos by land and sea - with our all-inclusive, small group, Galapagos Islands travel packages.
Immerse yourself in nature's living museum, a showcase of evolution. When you visit the Galapagos on one of our adventure tours you'll learn first-hand from our local guides how the islands were formed, and why they're a 'melting pot' of marine species. Located at the confluence of three ocean currents and isolated from the rest of the world, the islands provide a unique habitat for unusual animal life – such as the land iguana, the giant tortoise and the many types of finch. These animals inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection following his visit in 1835.
All of our tour guides are local to the islands and have completed four years of study to become official Galapagos Islands National Park naturalist guides. This role is held in high esteem and often you'll find numerous members of a family, including different generations, all joining the park service. Their enthusiasm for the conservation of the Galapagos Islands is contagious and they play an integral role in educating locals and visitors alike.
If you’d like to learn a little bit more about the Galapagos first, then read on to discover what makes the difference between a land or sea based trip in the Galapagos Islands. Why would you choose a land based trip, over a boat cruise in the Galapagos Islands?
For 20 years now we've been taking keen travellers to the Galapagos Islands, and every day we're asked: 'Why would anyone choose a land based trip over a boat cruise?'... and it remains one of the easiest questions we've ever had to answer.
Interact with the locals
First discovered in 1535, the Galapagos Islands now have a permanent population of slightly over 25,000. The majority of the population is made up of Ecuadorian Mestizos, who are the mixed descendants of Spanish colonists and indigenous Native Americans. So when you're thinking about choosing between a boat cruise or a land-based trip in the Galapagos, then you should ask yourself if you would prefer to be stuck on a boat full of tourists, parked up in an isolated bay, or would you rather stay in family-owned lodge and B&B style accommodations - getting a first-hand taste for island life?
Interact with the wildlife
What would you prefer to do, interact with the land and sea based wildlife, or take a photo of them as you cruise by?
Did you know the Galapagos Islands have incredible mountains?
On our Galapagos Island Land and Sea adventure we'll get you in the water with the marine life (like snorkelling Kicker Rock!), and we'll spend plenty of time getting out on the local trails. The Galapagos Islands National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and makes up 97% of the land area of the Galapagos Islands. On Isabella Island you'll find the Sierra Negra volcano, where you'll hike to its summit that stands almost a mile above sea level.
Watch the landscape and vegetation change before your eyes as you ascend through the lunar-like landscape on your way to the top. It’s quite a hike to the top of the volcano, and the views across the seven mile wide crater and surrounding coastline are well worth the climb! This is one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world, and one of the most active. As we hike, we might be lucky enough to see Galapagos hawks, short-eared owls, finches and fly-catchers that inhabit this region.
