Client Experience Manager
Dave grew up in Wellington and most of the time was found up a tree or on a bike peddling up a hill or to a beach. It was a rare moment where he did not have a cut, graze or broken limb from constantly pushing his limits (now's the time to say sorry to your mum Dave!)
Like many, he made the move south to Christchurch for university, and this is where he discovered mountains, (real) mountain biking and snowboarding.
"I’ve always tended to take the road less travelled and if it looked hard then all the more reason to do it" he says. Spending time as a Forestry Engineer, he admits the work map-room was used less for work and more for plotting the weekend's adventures!
After too much time in the trees it was time for Dave to fly the coup, and that he did with a long stint of travel and work, adventuring his way through Europe, the Russian Far East, Kamchatka and Thailand.
On Dave's return to New Zealand he completed an MBA and worked as a business consultant for 10 years in Wellington, focusing on customer experience and operational improvement across all sorts of industries. However, with the pull to the outdoors still strong, he moved to Sport New Zealand, the government body responsible to promoting physical activity, sport and recreation in New Zealand. "I wanted to help people gain in the physical and mental benefits of being active."
With his wife and two small off-spring in tow he then started an online exporting business whilst living and surfing in Bali for a NZ winter. This supported a move to Wanaka, Dave's spiritual home and of course, a great place to raise kids and play outdoors.
"Being part of Active Adventures means I can work in just the same way as I live the rest of my life, I can help people to challenge themselves and become intrepid explorers, without the pain of all the planning and preparation that is required. It’s like a coming together of business experience and play. The best adventures start where the track ends… My next challenge is snow-kitting and split boarding to create the ultimate day out in search of powder!" Says Dave.
