Stephen Fenemor

New Zealand Guide

Steve grew up in Motueka, a beautiful spot near the beginning of the Abel Tasman National Park. Motueka is a region that has attracted people from all over the world seeking a healthier, alternative lifestyle. From a young age Steve developed a great appreciation of the outdoors, with brilliant mountain biking, tramping, kayaking, caving, and climbing (amoungst others) all on his doorstep.

Steve recently finished his masters degree in exercise physiology from the University of Otago. He's also interested in exercise nutrition and has a bachelors degree in the subject from the same university. He'll know exactly how to keep you fuelled on those hikes!

In the winter down here he plays rugby for the University of Otago, and in his spare time, particularly in the summer, Steve enjoys mountain biking and spearfishing (Dunedin is fantastic for both of these sports). Whilst he's a lead guide for Active Adventures, he's admitted a love for cooking, especially with quality fresh ingredients, even more so if he's pulled it out of the ocean himself. So don't be surprised if you see him in the kitchen alongside your co-guide.

  • “Steve was great! A good attitude and always encouraging and entertaining.”
Stephen Meek (Glendale, California, United States) Rimu, October 2016
  • “Steve was wonderful! I would love to have him as my guide on any adventure. He is totally solid in every way.”
Sue Lipsman (St George, Utah, United States) Rimu, Jan 9 2017
  • “Steve felt like the leader of the group. On a couple things - one being letting the fit go ahead of the group on hikes. Once he'd had the chance to read the group he adjusted and not only let the fit go ahead from that day forth, but gave us options each hike for doing more. This was wonderful, greatly appreciated and speaks very well of Steve as a leader who learns and adjusts. Please note: I am not an easy grader. Both Joe and Steve were truly EXCELLENT and a great complement of each other. They worked together brilliantly and adjusted to balance out the other in task and personality. I give Active a ton of credit for attracting guides as good as Steve and Joe and making them as happy and appreciative as they appeared to be to guide us.”
