New Zealand Guide
Katie is very much one of the locals! She was born in Christchurch and grew up on a small farm there. She loves all animals, but especially her pets, and enjoys walking the dogs on the beach.
What are your hobbies?
Anything outdoors and in nature - tramping, camping, horse riding, biking, surfing, skiing in winter, and water skiing and boating in the summer! I love travelling and learning about new cultures and languages - I'm currently learning Spanish. I also love to play sports - touch rugby and tennis are my favourites.
Do you have any special talents?
Hmmm.... well I used to do gymnastics, and I think I can still do the splits - just! And a backwards handspring.
What has been your greatest outdoor adventure?
Biking around Northland on the North Island; my best friend and I took a couple of weeks off to go explore; we started in Paihia and travelled north along the east coast and then came down the west, it was amazing seeing my own country by bike and camping along the way!
What did you do before you became a guide?
I worked at a hospital as a sports physiotherapist in Wellington and Christchurch for a couple of years, and more recently I was working in a remote town called Wagga Wagga in Australia as an intensive care Physiotherapist. I spent a year traveling and volunteering in Central and South America where I mainly worked at animal rescue centers and farms. My favourite being a Monkey Rehab center in Costa Rica where I was looking after baby howler monkeys and taking horse treks to raise money for the center. I also worked on a Brazilian farm where I was riding with gaucho's and helping with general farm work, and taught english to kids in Argentina!
Have you studied beyond school? If so in what?
Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Otago University in Dunedin.

"First of all, the guides were hands-down the BEST EVER! They made this trip extra special. Katie and Lauren were always looking out for our best interest. They were great at engaging each of us in the group, they took the time to get to know each one of us, they made sure they included groceries that you liked and more. They were fun, energetic and full of happiness! They worked very hard and fed us very well. The food was amazing!!! A big THANK YOU to both of you beautiful young women! Thank you Active Adventures for hiring fun and inspiring women!"Vicki Igou (California, USA) December 2017
