Daniel Terrazas

South America Guide

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in Cusco - Peru. And I lived in the Amazon jungle until I finished primary school.

Hobbies?
I love mountain biking, travelling to new places, and I also enjoy reading history books.

What’s been your greatest outdoor adventure to date?
I once went to a snowcapped mountain on a trail called the Salkantay Trail, it was three days of hiking by myself, and I loved every moment of it.

What did you do before discovering a passion for guiding?
I worked in other hospitality roles, including as a hotel receptionist. I was also an assistant guide, and a truck driver!

Do you have a favourite quote that you live by?
I have a couple: "Today for you, tomorrow for me. That is reciprocity." it's an inka quote. And another I really like is "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style." I can't remember where I heard that one but it stuck with me.

Describe a life experience that has shaped you today:
It's not an experience exactly, but the biggest influence of all on me, was, and continues to be my father. He is the most hardworking person I know, he worked so hard to give my brothers and I our education. And I'm so grateful to him.

Testimonials

"Daniel was GREAT!!!!!!!! He was so concerned about each of us, and so knowledgeable and passionate about teaching us the local history and culture. He was also always working in the background because of the rearranged itinerary to make everything perfect for us. He was really great with our very active, talkative 11 year old son, who adored Daniel like a big brother..”

Rimu Trip - Should be #1 on Your Bucket List

First of all, the guides were "hands-down" the "BEST EVER"!!! They made this trip extra special. Katie C and Lauren were always looking out for our best interest. They were great at engaging each of us in the group, they took the time to get to know each one of us, they made sure they included groceries that you liked and more. They were fun, energetic and full of happiness! They worked very hard and feed us very well. The food was amazing!!! A big THANK YOU to both of you beautiful young women! Thank you active adventures for hiring fun and inspiring women!

    Simply said: Excellent

We’ve booked our trip with Active Adventures from NZ but ended up with Galakiwi Adventures as the implementing party. A bit confusing at the beginning but it turned out quite well.
Our trip through the Galapagos Islands started in San Cristobal, followed by Floreana, Isabela and ended in Santa Cruz.
We booked an all-inclusive trip and it turned out to be a very good decision. In fact we realized only after a few days how convenient is was to have everything organized for you and how much time you can actually safe. Starting with swimming gear that is provided as part of the package. Transportation to the ferry, getting on & off, having the transportation ready when you arrive, all those organizational aspects are taken care off which makes travelling from island to island very easy and smooth. Then hotels are ready, check in & out done super fast, luggage’s pick up etc. all organized. Lunch and/or dinners arranged in advance to maximize the vacation time and reduce wasted time to a bare minimum. What else to say besides that the organization was simply said excellent!!!
Then we had Zambo our tour guide, a fantastic & very knowledgeable person.
Not only questions from adults were not a problem for him, our kids and the other families kids who were also part of the group constantly came up with all sorts of questions and somehow, Zambo always had an answer.
All of this made it a great vacation; we enjoyed it a lot

    Southbound Rimu trip

After being on a Galapagos trip I thought I knew what to expect! Galapagos was amazing too but this trip was an experience in itself!! Every hike was an adventure and the rewards for getting to the top were a treasure to be seen!! A huge thanks to Rachel and Gary for their knowledge and everything they did to make this trip incredible!

It was the trip of a life time. I really enjoyed my trip! Arjun and Elder were the best guides. Though got sick at the end but Arjun and Elder were there like family members to take care of me and I’m grateful for their great service!
