Andrea Enzio

Italian Lakes Trip Leader

Andrea was born in Varallo in 1968; and has been a ski instructor since 1990 and a mountain guide since 1991. He started his working career in the mountains at an early stage, following in the footsteps of his father and the rest of his family, who are mainly made up of guides and ski instructors.

Having always had a passion for sport, Andrea participated as an athlete in the Alagna Alpine Ski Club for many years. Following that he started rock climbing and then moved on to alpinism. Before long Andrea became a ski instructor and mountain guide and started alternating the two jobs in summer and winter, as well as managing the high altitude Huts, Margherita and Gnifetti on Monte Rosa.

Andrea is attracted mainly to winter sports, started snowboarding, and completed an instructor’s course. After also obtaining a qualification in guiding canyoning expeditions, and participating in some Himalayas high mountain expeditions, he has been dedicating his attention and passion to skiing, and extreme snowboarding.

Andrea has dedicated his lifetime to sport - he's also a sailing fan, as well as parachuting, paragliding, canoeing, and scuba diving! He lives in Alagna and is the president of the historic Guide Corp there, founded in 1872, and is technical director of the Guide School. He is a family man, and has been married to Barbara since 2013 and they now have two kids: Caterina and Giacomo.

Testimonials

“Perfect guide. A genuinely great human being in all aspects. I enjoyed him a lot. He shared so much with us and was anxious to do so. He kept everything running smoothly in the forefront and behind the scenes.”
- Sandy Drury (Callander, Ontario, Canada), Dolce Vita July 2018

“Andrea was amazing- so knowledgable and interesting and he knew people everywhere we went. ”
- Andrea Rudolph (Rochester, New York, United States), Dolce Vita July 2018

“Andrea, in my opinion, couldn't have done a better job. His knowledge of the area was great....maybe use it to get some more suggestions for restaurants!! As a guide trekking up the mountains I felt he was very professional and knew the hiking areas well, creating instant trust in his abilities. Aside from having the patience of a saint re us asking to translate everything from Italian to English, nothing was too much trouble particularly when it came to his taxi service. He also had me laughing all week with his great sense of humour :)”

    Trip of a Lifetime!

This was such an amazing trip! Our guides Ash and Astrid did a fantastic job. Everyday was met with amazing views and challenging activities like kayaking, biking and hiking. Two weeks felt like a month because we did so much in one day but there was still some down time to enjoy the beauty that is New Zealand. A must for anyone who wants to be active in New Zealand.

Best trip I have ever taken

There are many layers to this trip
    1. The Group - It was really fun being in a group, and our group was really fun! Sometimes I hung out with people in my family, sometimes I hung out with someone else in the group. This variety and freedom was very enjoyable.
    2. The Guides - Koru and Ash were sooo great. Koru is a polished, learned and experienced leader. Ash is a fabulous cook, so much fun, and cared about each of us on the trip.
    3. The Country - Stunning! We covered so much of the South Island that we were able to see many sides of it's weather and terrain. Really great route.
    4. Activities - It was great sharing a physical activity with others, something I know brings people together. Hiking was great. At the end of a long hike was a fabulous surprise, like a glacial lake with ice burgs, or a beautiful high-mountain vista, or a glo-worm tunnel. Biking was super fun, and I wish there had been one more day of it. In hind site I personally would have selected the biking 3day excursion. The kayaking was great. Heavy chop or glassy lakes, we kayaked in it.
    5. Accommodations - These were just great. As nice as it can be being out in the countryside. I loved how we all ate together every meal.
    5. Pace - I thought the trip was very well planned. Just when we needed a break in the beginning from jet lag, and our trip activities, a two day respite was there in Queenstown where we could recharge. I recharged and my family bungy jumped! Also, activities were structured so that the not so keen could bail out at a stopping point.

    Rimu - NZ South Island

Our Rimu trip with Ken and Elder was truly a trip of a lifetime. The two of them were the perfect pair to lead our adventure -kind, warm, funny, and incredibly encouraging (for those of us who weren't quite sure we'd make it up the mountain!) My husband and I were fortunate to have both of our adult boys join us which made for a very memorable experience. New Zealand's South Island offered some of the most breathtaking landscapes we had ever seen. The hiking, kayaking, and biking was challenging and exhilarating. It was hard to say goodbye to the group who became like family. We have stayed in touch with some, and look forward to our next trip with Active.
