The New Zealand Cycle Trail

Wilderness Trail

This 80 million dollar project created 23 ‘Great Rides’ that allow bikers safe access to our West Coast rainforests, the highlands of Central Otago, the wineries that put New Zealand viticulture on the map, and everything in between. The Cycle Trail is mainly off road, and showcases the very best of our countryside, environment, culture and heritage.

The top 5 Greatest Rides in the New Zealand Cycle Trail network are:
The Queen Charlotte Track
Mavora Lakes
The West Coast Wilderness Trail
The Central Otago Rail Trail
Alps to Ocean

Take a look through the trails, and you’ll see how diverse the riding is in our part of the world. At the same time, you’ll see that we’ve hand chosen the absolute best sections of each trail to explore with you! So take the guess work out of exploring the New Zealand Cycle Trail, check out our New Zealand Bike Tour and request your free travel brochure. We’d love to help you toward your cycle tour of a lifetime.

The 'Weka' trip is our purpose built, biking adventure. Having said that, there are mountain biking options on most of our New Zealand trips, so get in touch to chat about which trip is going to be the best for you.

    Weka

Outpost Magazine Global Travel Guide 2016Our ‘Weka’ trip combines the very best of New Zealand’s cycling and hiking trails into an action-packed two week adventure. We’re keen bikers here at Active, so we wanted to create the ‘dream itinerary’ for fellow biking enthusiasts! We’ve escaped the traffic by choosing private roads and wide, smooth cycling trails. There’s plenty of flexibility and freedom if you want to ride a little further or a little less, we’ve got you covered! Our new ‘Weka’ trip will suit both road cyclists and mountain bikers alike.

Activity level: The ‘Weka’ is an active cycling and hiking trip, so it’s important that you have a base level of biking and hiking fitness. You don’t have to be young or ready to take on the Tour de France (although if you are super fit and raring to go, you won’t be bored), but you should be in the habit of doing at least some riding and be comfortable in the saddle..
