Steve grew up in Motueka, a beautiful spot near the beginning of the Abel Tasman National Park. Motueka is a region that has attracted people from all over the world seeking a healthier, alternative lifestyle. From a young age Steve developed a great appreciation of the outdoors, with brilliant mountain biking, tramping, kayaking, caving, and climbing (amoungst others) all on his doorstep.
Steve recently finished his masters degree in exercise physiology from the University of Otago. He's also interested in exercise nutrition and has a bachelors degree in the subject from the same university. He'll know exactly how to keep you fuelled on those hikes!
In the winter down here he plays rugby for the University of Otago, and in his spare time, particularly in the summer, Steve enjoys mountain biking and spearfishing (Dunedin is fantastic for both of these sports). Whilst he's a lead guide for Active Adventures, he's admitted a love for cooking, especially with quality fresh ingredients, even more so if he's pulled it out of the ocean himself. So don't be surprised if you see him in the kitchen alongside your co-guide.
