Here in our team we’re fortunate to be able to share all sorts of common interests. Our team is made up of kayakers, trail runners, bikers, mountaineers, skiers, and surfers – with one of the most dedicated to their craft here is Paul, our Marketing Manager. Over Easter he competed in the Lake Hayes Triathlon. It was a beautiful day and a nice low-key event, perfect for a first-timer! The race starts off with a 1.5km swim in Lake Hayes (15 minutes from Queenstown), followed by a very scenic 40km bike ride around Dalesfield and then a 10km trail run around the lake.
“The swim was pretty nippy, especially as I only had a wetsuit with no sleeves, but I got used to it after the initial shock. The ride was absolutely stunning and I could even say ‘enjoyable’, with very little vehicle traffic and no wind. Transitioning to the run was tough and there were a few moments when I wondered what I was doing there, but getting to the finish line was awesome.” – Paul
Paul’s main goal was to (‘have fun’!) beat his younger brother who flew over from Melbourne to compete in the event and he was happy to say he achieved that!
Official results aren’t out yet, but his time was around 2.5 hours.
