In September we ran our first ever Active Adventures Mustang Trek, an 18-day expedition-style trip that follows an ancient salt trading route between Tibet and India. After exploring the bustling capital of Kathmandu, our team of hikers (largely past Active guests), and Kiwi guides flew to Pokhara and onto Jomsom to meet our local team of porters…
Our lead guide Dan Keys (‘DK’) shares his account:
The first Mustang Trek I have to say was a complete success, far exceeding my expectations. Definitely one of the most incredible places I’ve trekked in the world. Full credit to the boys here for running a practically seamless operation. It’s hard to covey in a couple of paragraphs the hundreds of little things that made this tour the best trip ever; it’s quite a large operation with 8 guests, 9 staff and 10 animals moving across the ‘Ceiling of the World’ on a pretty much self-sufficient camping trip. The guests were a lovely bunch with returnees already passionate about Nepalese culture. This tour is more than a tick on your bucket list. I think most people that experience this area go home with a completely different bucket list. It’s a spiritual journey where jaw dropping vistas, smiles, laughter, incredible food and true honest friendship greets you at every pass, camp site and tea break. Ticks all the boxes of why I chose to be a guide with Active. The most complete example of ‘A trip of a lifetime’ I’ve experienced.
