When did you start guiding for Active?
During this last winter season, you were guiding over in the Northern Territory in Australia – can you tell us a little about what that was like?
Camping under the stars with just a mat and a mosquito net beside a waterfall couldn’t get any better, except when there was a spider the size of the palm of my hand hanging just above my pillow!
You’re also off to guide our Active Adventures Himalayas trips again this season — quite the jet setter! What do you look forward to most about travelling to Nepal?
Catching up with the Himalayas crew and meeting more people, learning more Nepali and getting involved with village life!
|And… Kate also guides for us in Nepal!|
Is there anything in particular that you absolutely would not travel to Nepal without?
A sense of humour!
With all this travel, where do you call home?
I still call Australia home.
What would you bring to the office for afternoon tea if you were passing through Queenstown?
🙂 Apple pie and ice cream!
|On top of the world.|
What’s your most memorable guiding experience so far?
Everyone getting to Everest Base Camp on our first trip in Nepal this season.
What star sign are you? Do you believe in horoscopes?
Leo, I just read the horoscopes in the Source [a Queenstown nightlife guide].
Are better movies made in Australia or New Zealand?
Russell Crowe is a babe, but is he Australian or Kiwi!? I’d have to say New Zealand, with the release of ‘The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey’ and how could you possibly beat ‘Boy’!

We recently wrote a blog about cafe culture in NZ, do you have a favourite café in Queenstown?
That’s a hard one… my first love was the Bathhouse – it’s in such a nice location right out in front of Lake Wakatipu on the beach, with incredible views.

“Kate was amazing. I was so impressed with her calmness, professionalism, and competency in guiding as well as her keen sense of humor and sharp intelligence. She is so bright and capable, and I’ve such admiration for how she has pursued her interest in the outdoors, exploration, countries and cultures, and many activities. She’s the kind of person I would enjoy as a friend. We all were amazed by her talent! I was also impressed that she had taken the time to learn quite a bit about New Zealand wildlife, birds and plants.”
