Well, down here at ACTIVE in Queenstown, we have a fancy schmancy new Director of Marketing, an old friend of mine, Marie. And Marie’s determined to make me write a blog, and I’ve agreed, cos frankly it’s easier to write a few words about hiking New Zealand and so on, rather than put up a fight. This is just the beginning, apparently. Marie talks a lot, uses all sorts of terms I’ve never heard of, and resistance seems, well, a waste of time. So here it is. The good, the bad, and the hopefully-not-too-ugly. Check this out for an anachronistic Kiwi-ism: When I started ACTIVE Adventures most people had never heard of email. I had heard of it, barely, only because I had a friend at university who had an “email account”, which, to us at the time, was up there with Star Trek, ray guns and so on. I guess that makes us sound really old, but I’m talking about the early 1990s! (OK, admittedly the same time this photo of me was taken.)
Anyway. Things are different now, eh? I’m afraid I’m rather skeptical about marketing matters, but have agreed to Marie’s gig, so here we are. Marie raves on about twittering, facebooking, blogging and so on. I find it hard to believe the CEO of ACTIVE Adventures is EVER going to tweet – I mean, c’mon, 140 characters or less? But like the Biebster says – yes, we’ve heard of Justin Bieber down here in NZ too – never say never. Hmmm. Well, I still don’t think I’ll EVER tweet 🙂
I can’t believe it but now that Marie has insisted on a blog that welcomes all and any who can manage to find it, it makes me think about how many have actually been on our trips over the years. Hmmmm. I think it’s been about 13,000 folks who have taken an ACTIVE trip, not least of which was our hiking New Zealand trip, the Rimu, named after a Kiwi bird, which started this whole venture almost 16 years ago. So whether you’re a past client of ACTIVE, you’re considering one of our trips, or you’ve just stumbled across us, Welcome.
And there ya go Marie – I did it a blog. Marie, you’re welcome too 🙂
