New Zealand Guide
"Home is where the mountains are" says Amanda, and right now that home is Queenstown. Amanda is a snowboard instructor in the winters and of course, guides for Active around the country during our Southern Hemisphere summers. When she's not guiding you'll find her downhill biking or catching up with mates at the lake. She grew up on a sheep farm in Mid-Wales, where there are plenty of similarites to New Zealand with a similar popularity, many mythis and legends, LOTS of sheep and an obsession with rugby! Her love of hiking and everything outdoors stems from her youth hiking the mountains of Snowdon, Cadir Idris and Pen-Y-Fen.
Epic Adventure Tales...
"On visiting a friend in Saas Fee, Switzerland, we undertook an amazing hike amongst the surrounding mountains, often the track would be replaced by random pegs and ladders that you had to climb up and high altitude scary swing bridges. We saw marmots and reflective lakes and finished the final descent on fat tyred monster mountain bikes. I've also taken some pretty scary walks...accross the lava fields of Mt Kilauea on Hawaii's Big Island to see the hot lava flowing into the sea at night (the scariest and most amazing experience ever - we were told we actually might die!) and along the beach of Deepwater National Park in Australia to see nesting turtles at night but not anticipating about a milliion soldier crabs scurrying around (not the relaxing barefoot walk I expected!)."
